Hmmm well all I can say is don't browse ebay half cut on your birthday! Lucky my lass doesn't mind me having too many cars outside the house (yet).
Nevermind, I've always wanted a turbo 900! Picking it up on Sunday so will know more after the weekend. Body is apparently very clean, gearbox good, suspension at the front could use a rebuild and it has poor alternator mounts (common?) who knows... I'm happy with my drunken choice especially at the price I got it for. Fingers crossed its not a total sack'o'cack.
Genuine Turbo 16valve model, quite odd (and rare?) that it doesn't have the aero bodykit? Or Aero 3 spoke alloys. I'm not a Saab fanatic but have always been a fan.
Anyways a few pics;

Good luck with the new Saab. Looks ok in the pictures. Look forward to reading about it. Apparently those wheels did come on some turbos.

I've never seen one in this colour or trim options before but I like it.
Stuff that I know needs doing are;
new centre section exhaust £20
front ball joints £??
supposedly alternator bushes £?? not sure how hard these will be..
it has no headlining and apparently the interior is tired (but I've already seen a decent cloth one for £90 not far from me)
oh and a crack in the nsr light ... hopefully theres not much more than that but you'll all be aware what its like buying a car without seeing it!

I was watching this as well, very tempting... Not all 16 valve Turbo's were S spec.. Only S spec or Aero's had S kit and 3 spoke S wheels, this is a standard 16 valve car, spec looks right to me(used to work for Saab in the early nineties)

Is this one with the LPT turbo engine (no intercooler)? Those usually looked no different from the base 900i16 model.

Has it got a rear anti-roll bar? If it has, it's an S with an odd spec, if not the insurers have it listed wrong. There was actually very little difference mechanically to distinguish the S from the 16v model...

They did do a non bodykit T16 - they look quite nice in 2-door saloon form. It's lpt if it's missing the boost gauge - it's really just for improved torque and economy. Wastegate is fixed at a conservative 5psi...Still it's less likely to have been thrashed which is important on these. Never give them full beans in 1st or second, the box will usually die at around 100K if you do...
Only 145bhp but easily fixed with a few minor mods ;-) It's exactly the same engine and turbo as the 175bhp model (well a mitsubishi instead of garett turbo which is less laggy) just missing the intercooler and APC - just fit an MBC 200bhp here we come..

Cheers madwelshman. I picked this up yesterday which was a 320 mile round trip and even though there are faults I fear I may be falling in love. Oh dear. It drove really nicely despite the front suspension problems. It is the LPT model but surprisingly quick and the engine seems healthy even with 188 thousand miles on the clock! Interior needs replacing and body needs tidying in places but other than this I really like it! Totally different feel to the later GM cars which always felt flimsy inside. This one feels like an old BMW and you can feel the quality.
Anyone got an aero kit, 3 spoke alloys and leather interior??

First parcel of non essential sparkly curse word turned up yesterday... Also... this is apparently a LPT car... however on opening the bonnet last night to look at how I would route in a FMIC ... my car has an intercooler installed already! Looks like a standard FPT intercooler set up! Might this explain why this car feels extremely quick to drive??

Looks good! How are these for rust? They can be quite bad apparently if not cared for. From memory inner wings can suffer, door bottoms (quirky design on these as they cut deeply into the sills) the sills can also rust. Bonnet edges can go too, mine has a small hole on the drivers side. Its also had 2 small patches on the sills but is otherwise pretty straight.

Intercooler already eh, nice :-) Rust, yep, a very important area to check is under the back seat base where the rear trailing arms attach to the floor. If there's bad corrosion there, it can be a nightmare to fix apparently. Saab 99's are exactly the same in this case. Also check the front inner wings, where the drive shafts pass through, can be a bad area for rust, Front cross members can be quite bad sometimes. Rear hatch rusts, especially below the window if a spoiler is fitted. As you've already said, door bottoms and also wheel arches. 188,000 miles, just run in :-D www.saabits.com/body-and-trim/repair-panels/classic-900www.stevelewissaab.co.uk/saab-99-body-repair-panelsIf you haven't already, get yourself on UKSAABS.CO.UK forum. Picked up a good velour interior for this at the weekend... unfortunately it seems not to fit my car as the front seats were redesigned for the run out models so the mounting are totally different which has really curse word me off! Anyone got a late 900c interior please get in touch! I did also get some nicer alloys too.. £60 with decent tyres and centre caps! Managed to get some enthusiasm back despite the interior problems and fitted the clear indicators. Passenger side was easy but the drivers side was a right pain in the hoop, had to take the horn off to get access! Worth it though. And remembered to get a shot of the engine bay. Intercooler already installed Tatty interior shot
