A lot of picture threads on here are a potential gold mine of awesomeness, the markbognor and WillCarter threads for a start, or even the OOOF Thread are a great way to find some more interesting content if you know how to find it.
With a bit of effort even the most vapid of threads can herald some greatness, take this post for example :
Take this post : retrorides.proboards.com/post/2003524/thread
It is a great find and understandably R3TR0_R0B couldn't find much more information on it, there are afterall no stickers or watermarks and the source is from Facebook, so it is likely to have been shared and to be someone else's picture.
For those that didn't click through here is the picture :
Armed with just this what are we to do? A few year's ago that would have been pretty much it, look at the picture, say "that is pretty cool" and get on with our day. Now however there are a number of tools at our disposal.
First up Google Image Search.
Now if you are using a proper computer you can take the link for the image above (right click and "copy image url", or some similar such wording depending on which browser you have) then go into Google Image Search, click the little camera icon in the search bar and paste the image url in the box. If it lets me copy it this link will take you to the results page.
Now this isn't a great result to be honest... usually there would be links to more sources for the image, often tumblrs and such like that have more interesting content.
You can also use www.tineye.com for this. If you want you can dip out now and go and experiment, pick a handful of pictures posted in the various picture threads and see if you can find more, build threads, similar picture threads, all that kind of good stuff.
I have to admit I was vexed by this turn of events, it is usually pretty reliable.
I decided to do things with a bit of personal knowledge, now I know this is a Honda Prelude, given the massive arches and substantial wheels I figured it wasn't going to be messing around in the power department, so I did a search for "honda prelude thundersaloon" in Google Images which resulted in these results
On the results page this looks like the car, but the wing and livery are all wrong...
This looks to be the same car, but with the different wing
The source for this image is this blog post : jonsibal.com/blog/2009/03/thundersaloon-prelude/
This tells us that it is the Rod Birley built Prelude thundersaloon from the early 90's, but that still doesn't tell us where that picture up there ^^^ came from.
Further down the Google image results is this picture :
This is linked to this thread on Prelude Zone : www.preludezone.com/auto-showoff/19274-my-92-4th-gen-thunder-saloon.html
Which now finds for us the owner (at least they were a couple of years ago) and some more pictures of it in its pure black state :
Stil no sign of the original image!
But I did find the company that is the sponsor on the wing : www.facebook.com/turxworkshop and their proper website : www.turx.co.uk
So there you go a little thread on how you could find some cool stuff off the back of the initial cool pictures that get posted.
