It's been a very long day and I'm nowhere near finished yet ....but anyway ;
I want to take part in classic trials ( I'm at work so can't post pictures but see some of the lifted cars thread for the general idea ) but need to use the car to rattle to work and back as well so I've got myself an ebay special W reg (2000) VW Polo 1.9 sdi 3 dr. as FWD is supposedly the coming thing in classic trials.
I will post a build thread once I actually start but just now I have some obvious (and perhaps less obvious) questions ;
1. The n/a diesel is a bit of a plodder - what's the easiest upgrade from the same 'family' of 1.9 diesel engines that wouldn't be too involving in terms of the peripherals and I'm thinking mainly ECU / driveshaft length / space for additional plumbing etc.
2. I understand a lot of the chassis components are shared with the Mk3 Golf - if this is true does that extend to the springs ?
3. Would anyone know which gearbox would fit to the 1.9 diesel block that would give me the lowest ratios ? Or equally is there a box from a specific model or year to avoid because it's a bit fragile ? Or is there a link so I can look for myself ?
4 And finally I can only use wheel sizes that were standard/optional equipment on that model …. Can anyone tell me if the wheels available on the car from new, from VW were any bigger than 14" ?
Thank you all - you're collective wisdom and ALL suggestions are much appreciated.
