So after washing the mg this afternoon I am seeing more rust patches appearing and I have decided I should start planning to build up a plan of action.
I know that a lot of people view grp panels as ill fitting and value sapping but are there any real reasons for not fitting them other than that?
People who have already fitted them (doors/tailgate) have you found them to be boomy or let in any more road noise?
Thanks in advance people.

Just don't expect them to be as close fitting as originals or to be as stiff. At the end of the day they are intended for race cars and the like. People complain because they buy them and they don't perform as well as the factory fitted original panels. Those kind of people are not the sharpest tacs in the box imo

We fitted the mgc bonnet from honeybourne mouldings and is fine..... But like what's already been said other large panels are meant for race cars and not to look good. I've seen it done on rd cars and sebring reps and can look good but I know they aren't easy and a pain to get the gaps right so I would use good quality oe panels myself

I had fibreglass wings on both a Beetle and a Minor. They looked OK and what was surprising is they were very thick so actually heavier than the original steel. On the other hand I had a pair of Series 1 Land Rover front wings that must have been made for racing as wafer thin / light so required a couple of extra layers of matting to be usable for the road. Moral of story is physically see what you are buying rather than simply ordering blind.

I've got GRP wings/bonnet/doors on my BGT, I didn't drive it with the metal items but certainly the front wings seem to have some strength, as do the doors. They did take some fitting though, certainly wasn't a bolt-on out of the box job.
