Hi, just got myself a suzuki alto 2004 but it only came with 1 key, now is this a transponder key or just an ordinary key which i can get cut ? The key looks like an ordinary key and there are no signs of the key having 2 halfs to enable you to change a battery, to me it looks like a standard key but would welcome your expert knowlege on this... Thanks

It might have a tuned circuit type coil in it that's activated by proximity to the steering column, I've known cars that needed the 'good' key glued inside the column cover to get around that.
Get a key cut and test it?

Not all immobiliser keys with a chip have a battery. Vauxhall keys from the mid-90's are often solid with no opening parts but they still have a chip in them for the immobiliser. So it depends if your Alto is fitted with an immobiliser or not. Some insurance websites will say if the car has a factory fitted immobiliser when you enter the reg. no. for a quote.

I'm sure all manufactures have had fit transponders since 1998

just to let you all know that it did have a transponder. I went to my local key cutter and he said he couldnt do it so asked around and was quoted £100 from one place and £120 from another, so i nearly gave up untill i tried one of those booth type key cutters and got it done for £40 Thanks to all who gave thier advice
