Where are all the saab 900 turbos gone too.?

I do regularly get a hankering for something nice,something to cheer myself up so off I went with a mission to find a nice usable 900 turbo for handy-ish money or better still a carlsson albeit at bigger money...but they seem to have got scarce and the few that are advertised are highly priced,maybe the day of a cheap 900 is numbered.any thoughts?

non turbos are still cheap. i think most turbos lunched their boxes..

A 900 16v Turbo S is one of my bucket list cars so I've always watched the prices and I think if you want a cheap one the horse has bolted. Good low mileage cars are scarce and desirable and are well north of £5k which has dragged all the poor to average cars along in their wake. Like many 80s cars numbers on the road are now dwindling, and many 900s have galactic mileages, seen loads of these advertised with 200k+ miles. So you have three choices, pay up with the big boys if you want a keeper, buy a high miler if you just want one to play with or buy a non turbo if you want a sub £1k car.

I don't think I'll ever own one now, the ones I see in my budget scare the bejeezus out of me.

I managed to get lucky last year and found 900 T16s for £300. It drove, but had its fair share of issues. Driveshaft tunnel completely rotted out on the drivers side, passanger side wasn't as bad, but still needed work. One front caliper was seized partially on, the other was seized off. one of the lower wishbones had a hole rotten through it.

But it's not too tatty, the engine and turbo seems good.

So they are out there, but you might need a bit of luck timing wise. I seem to see a lot being broken and sold for bits at the moment, most look saveable in my mostly unskilled mind, always seems a shame and bugs me a little bit. There was a grey carlsson 9000 on ebay a few months back, I would have snapped it up if I had more means. Fella wanted £1200 for it, I suspect its been / being broken now.

Good luck on your hunt anyway, they are still out there I think.

Edit: Forgot to say that gearbox is missing fourth gear. Picked up another box for £160 though.

I'm surprised. Maybe there are all in the Midlands but I've been noticing more and more of these little gems being driven around daily, albeit the later model 900s.

Yeah...I think all the above sums the thing up,there getting a bit scarcer and prices are shooting up,I'm sure if I wait I might be able to come across something. I have a breakers yard so hopefully one might pop up,I've bought some of the best stuff through the yard

My Carlsson (in the avtar) is on a chassis trolley in my workshop. It's resting.

Some people won't believe you when you say the k-jet fuel injection system is a nightmare. They don't know what it's like to work on one that's broken. The problem is the whole system runs on analogue mechanical controls like bending hot wires, rubber diaphragms, springs and stuff like that. When it starts to get a bit old and stops working properly it's very difficult to get back on track.

The 8v engines also run really well with a modern aftermarket ECU controlling it all.

I had a T16 and sold it last summer for about £1500. It had a few niggles but was basically sound and went like a rocket. I bought it on a whim to use for our wedding, I lost a bit on it but still cheaper than hiring a Roller!

I went to buy one a few years from a localish independent saab dealer....came away with vw camper they were getting scare even then
