At the moment, I'm quite lucky, Not sure what the PC way of saying it is, but my neighbours are special on one side, one woman is neighbourhood watch type always outside our house always asking obvious questions and telling us who died on the street recently etc, etc. "Is that a toyyerrrta?", "are ya wasshin ya biiike", "is that yer wasshing on the line" etc, another guy does my head in repeatdly asking silly questions, "is that a granada, whats it need, theres one, guesswhere, is that a Granada, scrapyard, guess where, scrapyard,?" I think he maybe had a breakdown once. , other side they have a beetle, so they seem cool, I pretty much pay downstairs fro the privaledge so they say nowt and chap accross teh way looks grumpy, yet to suss him out... Similar story at me moms, chap next door loves/hates me depending what i'm doing and how intoxicated off he is, theres a cop who hates everyone, and couple people with old fords and 'dubs', I dare say apart from teh cop its pretty harmonised.

I ll agree with that - on one side is a convicted embezzler who thinks he owns the street, cut down two mature trees, while we were on holiday, parks his car outside my house, even though he has a large drive, breeds dogs and treats them very badly - rings the council and the police at the drop of a hat if someone parks 2 inches over his driveway. On the other side is a scrubber with three shouting/screaming kids, by three different fathers, who allows her kids to throw rubbish in our garden, while she gets curse word and screams through the kareoke machine at midnight - they steal things from our garden, scratch my car and put nails and screws under the tyres. But I'm not bitter

The other side is an ex teacher, who hates me and once tried to have one of my cars scrapped, she called the scrap man (pretending to be my mother), who then called me and asked why I was scrapping my car (we know each other very well)... I decided a long time ago to just get on with it anyway and tell em to do one

LMAO at the scrap man calling you back.
My neighbours have yet to feel the full force of Akku as since living here I have't really done that much car stuff compared to my old ways...
Next door is a Enviornmental ENgineer for the Environment Agency. Bvgger!!! She asked a lot of questions when I was spraying 2K paint in the garage. Across the way is an old folks home, they say nothing and the other side I have a guy who loves my garage and wants something similar so he can use it as an office to work from home in, then the others are nice to my face but I overheard him moaning what a disgrace it was and how I'd ruined the houe etc. which pished me off a bit as I've done loads to the gardens and outrside of the house to make it look nicer - I just so happen to have extended the drive and put up a garage... Shock horror!
One guy who owns a far yard which is almost adjjacent to my place has a lot of complaints working on his classics and the like there, regular visits from the council because people claim he is running a business illegally there, etc. He said if I get any complaints about paint fumes or whatever "Just say its me. I'm used to it. water off a ducks back"
My old house I used to get one guy complain all the time. He was a tosser though. Every time there was oil spots in the street or aything he was up to complain. Even if it was some random other car or van had done it, I always got the blame. Bloke across the road complained lots too. Built a 8 foot tall fense so he couldn't see my house!
But the next door neighbours either side got on fine with me. The guy we shared a wall with even said when we moved out that we'd vbeen "really good neighbours" and that him and his wife were "really sad to see you go". Which is nice. Bloke the other side was 85 year old Pole and he'd stop by especially after his wife died just to see what I was doing, chat, that sort of thing. No problems.

My next door neighbour is a mechanic and he helps me work on and move my cars, etc. Woman across the road moans a bit if I make loads of noise on a Saturday morning.
Old next door neighbour at my old house dobbed me in to the council and told them I was running a garage business from home - but then I did take the p!ss, making loads of noise, etc.

generally if you give people something to complain about they will...
If you genuinely do your best and they stillcomplain then you can't win. But trry not to upset the rest of the neighbours or they will witch hunt you.

Yeah, I think i'm extremely careful with mess, obstruction, safety, noise and work times (i don't do enough), and friendly when prompted so in return i expect neighbours to be fine with me. As for the 'cars' thing, been at the flat 7 months and they have seen 4 different cars so far! 3 out there right now! must sell one...

I'm VERY lucky with my neighbours. They all think its great that I work on all my own cars. It also helps that a lot of them own golfs too and I help them out occasionally. In fact, I'm off out later to weld a patch in my neighbours son's ( 17 and first car ! ) mk2 golf....

My new neighbours seem ok. The people a few doors down lent us a sack truck to help unload the van within minutes of parking up to unload!
The people one side didn't seem all that chuffed when the H Van broke down - blocking them in but they did help push it out of the way!

my new house is ace, detached, whole downstairs is garage and have a flat up stairs, my neighbour is a garage and mot place, in fact whole street is garage/welding place/ gym/some other sorta buisnesses, I'm the only real resident I think. (have got the police station opposite me though) so I make as much noise as I want, not had a single complaint. the guys at the garage next door are ace too. - have picked their brains, borrowed the odd tool etc, smart wasnt so rosey at the last place, knob across the road( he plays golf- says it all) would complain constantly about the noise my car makes, - celica gt4 with a stainless pipe) wouldnt rev it up or anything, just the deep rumble on tickover reckoned he couldnt hear his telly, " I hear you go to work every day "etc my ariel was snapped one night, also another neighbour told me she saw him come home intoxicated about 9pm one sat night and stand on my exhaust trying to snap it off went to confront him and to be honest I wouldvre knocked his teeth through the back of his skull, I was liveid. he wasnt in( or hiding) calmed down later on and reported it to the police so that I had something on record. went round the next day when I knew he was in and he looked out the upstairs window and wouldnt come down for a chat and insisted he was at his girlfreinds house on the night in question cnut I will get my ownback in due time ... and itll be sweet. another house I lived in with my parent in the 90s had the local councillor(edward fliping wildig) live 4 doors away, complained about everything and everyone. was in the process of debating what colour to paint my 74 celica so the motor was like a patchwork quilt with splats of colour all over. he complained to my dad that it made the village look a mess and like it had been vandalised. local election was that week. I sprayed the car on one side in white and that dayglo green safety paint with big letters "VOTE PARRY" (his opponent) and parked it outside his house. he went fookin mental, it was ace

The ones who own the house attatched to ours are OK-ish don't really talk to them. The ones on the other side are complete curse word. They're in their 80s and he still threatens to hit me when I'm working on the cars. He once slashed my grandads tyre on his car because my grandad parked next to his wall (his drive entrance is around the corner) so my grandad decked him lol was funniest thing i've ever seen my grandad is only 5ft tall.
Theres a guy over the road ex-policeman who used to be a tosser when I was a kid, got bod on with us skateboarding or riding our bikes on the street. Anyway his wife died a few years ago and since then he's been great. He's given me curse word loads of tools that he doesn't use anymore and helped me out a few times.
Theres also a bloke next door to the guy above who is the usual "on the school council board, involved in the local gala" do-gooder. He's complained numerous times to the police and council but they can't do anything lol

Whats he complaining to the council and police about? surely providing your not running a business and not making noise between 11pm and 07:30 then you aint doing anything wrong as its up to you how you enjoy your free time and what you do on your property. personally i've never had any neighbour problems but i'm sure the day will come!

I have a car mechanic/fixer upper guy directly across the road, there's an almost constant stream of V8's coming and going, there'll be new neighbours beside us shortly, so... that will be interesting, the C110 isn't the most quiet of cars, especially first thing in the morning. ;D

the new(ish) "safer and quieter neighbourhoods act" makes it illegal to cause a nuisance to your neighbours, What is a nuicance and what isn't will be at the discretion of the local magistrate. Making noise depends on what kind of noice for example building noise is supposed to stop at 6pm and not start unitl 7am. I found this out when some silly-billies were building a new health centre near my old house and working till 2 am with compactors!
I believe you may not be allowed to work on your car after a certain hour also but this may be in the local bylaws not national laws.

and they can't really "acuse" you of running a business... haha they can do if they want it`d be like accusing the pope of being catholic! Really upset one of my folk`s neighbours last year without even trying, he`d put a couple of feeble little ramps against the kerb the stop people parking across his "driveway" (garden). Sadly they blended right in with the kerb/gutter, I didnt even see them and crushed them beyond recognition and blocked him out of his "drive" into the bargain without even realising.

They accused me of running a car business from the driveway lol. Could be the fact that in the last few years we've always had at least 6 cars on the drive. 2 definetley off the road the whole time (My 100E and the Mk5 Cortina estate I recently broke) and other various ones owned by me/my dad in various road going form.
The best bit was when I popped the gearbox in my old Clio. Just coming into the estate and it jammed in gear. Anyway I ragged it out as I came onto our street, selector fork snapped, went round the diff and smashed a hole in the casing. First I knew of it was when I turned round at the end of the road, saw the oil line and smelt the oil lol. You could see exactly where i'd driven for months.
