Hi guys,
My oil level is rising in my 2002 2.2 cdi Vito van and I am assuming that it is diesel getting into the system causing it. I know that the high pressure fuel pump is leaking but could this be causing it, or is it more likely to be the turbo or the injectors?
Thanks I advance for any help.

Does it have a DPF? They're prone to getting diesel into the oil.

High pressure pump , you can get a service kit but they aren't huge money now anyway . Leak off test will show up an injector issue

Would a dpf cause a lot of diesel to get into the system. I don't actually know if it has one or not I will have a look into it. I have seen how much the pumps are and I will be buying a new pump. What leak test do you speak of though?

On diesels with a DPF, depending on the engine management system and how the vehicle is driven, when the DPF gets to a certain level of particles trapped it can try to burn them off by injecting additional diesel after combustion. On a lot of diesels that fuel remains unburnt and ends up in the oil, which is why the oil level goes up.
Usually more of a problem on a vehicle used a lot round town or on shorter journeys. You need a hard fast run at higher rpm to get the DPF to clean itself without the additional diesel being dumped into the system.

What leak test do you speak of though? Yes, DPF regeneration will load the engine oil with diesel. If the van is trying countless times to regen and fails it will very quickly push the oil level very high. Worth seeing if your can has DPF and weather it's a fault causing it. Easiest way round DPF trouble is to remove the core and have the van remapped to remove the regen portion of the software. Might not be your issue but it's the first thing I'd be looking at.

If diesel is mixing with your oil, once you have the issue fixed I strongly suggest you remove the oil pan and clean the oil pick up filter mesh.
This is a common issue on D4D hilux engines, and we have personally had an engine fail at 80,000kms in NZ. Oil starvation caused the motor to sieze. The diesel mixed with oil to make a carbon sticky residue that blocked the pick-up.... D4D engines are costing a fortune in NZ now as this is becoming so common.

The CDi is prone to this, the HP fuel pump leaks back into the head and dilutes the oil, rebuild kits are under £20 and are a pretty easy to do, i did one just last week although that was leaking from one the pump heads. If not that it's isually a weeping injector dribbling fuel after the engine has stopped and seeping passed the rings into the sump.
