I'm after some advice,
I'll be bringing my mini out of hibernation at the start of April and using it through summer till probably the end of August.
Can anyone recommend somewhere to get insurance for that length of time? I don't need or want a 12 month policy and I'll still be using my daily for work etc.

Hi, why would you not want the car insured during the winter, is it less valuable then? There is also the question of theft, as has been seen recently, thieves will go to quite extraordinary lengths to take cars from "secure" storage.

Colin The car is covered under a "laid up" policy which expires at the end of the month and so far is substantially cheaper, hence why I'm asking for recommendations. |

If needs be then I will take out a 12 month policy and cancel if after 5!

As I keep telling the Mrs, ring the insurance companies up and work a deal out.
Everything is possible, and you get what you want in the end..

Both myself and my wife are early retired so I informed our insurers we no longer required commuting / business cover (required to reclaim any mileage on official business). This reduced premium a noticeable amount. It's a case of if you don't ask then you will never know so I agree - ask insurers if they will reduce cover during the laid up period. |

A mate of mine has a policy for his supra which is a laid up policy for 6 months of the year, and fully comp for the rest. I think he pays about £250 for the year as it's limited mileage too.
I'll ask him who he's insured with, so you can give them a call.

There's an admin fee for moving them on and off the laid up list but it changes the total policy amount a lot and they refund the difference immediately and then I have to pay the difference to put them back on (does that make sense?). The broker is Peter James but I can't remember the name of the underwriter. |

That`s who I have my trade policy with, which isn`t as straight forward as others as it has to cover classic cars fully comp, which very few other trade policies wil do. |
