So now instead of the wires running along the chassis leg and going over to the engine above the selector mechanism at the front, I saw an opportunity to just flip the loom and have it come from the back which when the turbo etc is back on you won't even see, no wire extending even needed. From... To... Now to re-cover the wires and start reassembly

I also did a number of other things to aid the "cleanup" I've flipped over the fuel lines so they aren't as visible and no longer rub on the cambelt cover, rerouted the standard mk2 headlight loom to go through the wing but haven't thought of a way to keep the wires out of the way yet. Let's see if tomorrow is as productive.

Slit the black piece and pull it apart. That silver stuff is really brittle, it will just snap off.

Brilliant work, the engine bay looks so good with the wires hidden!

I am pretty unhappy with what I've achieved over the last year with this car, not having had the best of luck with the dailies and other things really but hey that's life eh, the '07 polo we had dropped a valve, queue buying an 03 forester, I spent saved money servicing it to ensure it's longevity as best I could now that I do circa 350 miles a week, sure I could have gotten a smaller more economical car but I don't hate myself and we had one of those already, I spend a lot of time in it so I want to enjoy it. Next doors fence fell over pulling our fence with it, our boiler started to leak...3 times... Finally started to get some money back in the jar and the other half booked us a holiday without asking on short notice, technically I shouldn't complain about a holiday but I'd rather the turbo for the same price so I don't have ££££ tied up in an unusable car. I genuinely had a frown on my face when she told me about the holiday and a slight tantrum too, if it happens again I can tell you it WILL be cancelled, I haven't driven this car for coming on two years now, all the motorbike fettling stopped a while back too. To get some mojo back I pushed it out of the garage on Saturday and gave it a good scrub and polish, put half of the interior back in (dashboard and front seats) before taking the other half of the interior out for no real reason other than to clean under the carpet and look for rust really. My brother took me to a small hill climbing event outside of Salisbury for my birthday which kind of inspired me to do something similar with the golf. Strip out the rear, cage it x y z but if the first paragraph has given you any idea, I can't afford all that so the rear seats will probably just end up back in there. Whilst I was cleaning up, a friend of next doors popped round their house but seemed to be more interested in what I was doing... he was driving this : I spied some track/turbo mods. Other than that I've been twiddling my thumbs and working.

consider thumb officially pulled out of my . In the car new years resolution thread on here, I posted something a little outrageous about what I was thinking of doing with my car, especially considering what it has. Well step one... say goodbye to this. Magnus walkers mantra had better come true this year!

I had plans to engine transplant my Polo this year, but instead I'm just going to get out and use it! Maybe build the engine on a stand so I can drop it in quickly over a weekend. What Mk3 donor will you go for? ABF?

What Mk3 donor will you go for? ABF? I'd say it's a very uncommon swap with mk2's. not unheard of just uncommon. People will definitely think I'm mad for going the way I have but I'm in it for simplicity and getting it driving, what good is the car when it's sat in a garage for years on end regardless of bhp loss xD It's not a big block engine

As much as I like the idea of a V5 it's not that Lets say, small and 16v. I've got two weeks off work so I set about taking whats left of the 1.8t bits out of the car, all the wiring, pedal box as the 1.8t I had was drive by wire and Seat hydraulic clutch. I didn't like the welding on the pedal box, not that I can weld myself but I think I wouldn't be happy with the finish of the work done to mate the electronic pedal to the golf pedal box if it were my own, even if it does work. I think I'll be taking a look at my donor cars wiring and putting as much of it in as possible when the time comes, they're pretty similar cars, can't wait to get it here so I can tear into it. Need to hunt for a standard pedal box now unless someone wants to trade some bits - got lots of 1.8t stuff (downpipe from k03s and full exhaust system, I think it's jetex though I'll have to have another look in the daylight, AUQ ECU that's had immo delete as far as I'm aware because my car didn't have the key etc stashed anywhere, thanks to photobucket mucking up I don't know if I have proof of the tune but it made a solid ~215bhp a few years back with the exhaust and intake I have) Probably about time the brake fluid got changed... I bought an early GTI master cylinder a few years back and had it sat unused, it doesn't have the extra tube for the clutch so will do perfectly for my uses, bolted up after a quick clean up. I've had a subframe stashed for a few years in the loft space to my garage, I thought it would be the same as the one on my car but as luck would have it, it's a VR6 subframe rather than a mk2 one, I'm unsure if I can get mounts for it that will suit my needs, shame because it's in great shape.

Please tell me it's a Fabia VRS lump you're sticking in it? I've wanted to do that for years but never found a good donor...

Was working on the golf again today... It's not a fabia engine unfortunately, I'd have stuck with the 1.8t if that were the case, cost being the limiting factor here. I figured if I could get the car on the road again for less than the price of the turbo and remap I wanted with the necessary gaskets etc I'd give it a go, so I set about browsing FB and ebay for a suitable "engine". Not easy when people don't often say whether a car is 8v or 16v these days and most don't bother with a picture of the engine bay either, I wanted something that was road worthy rather than a complete heap, luckily for me they're everywhere and cheaper than a new pair of socks. This one cost me £300 with a fair amount of ticket left. Joe, you are soooooo close, with that in mind, the car in question is getting dropped off tomorrow. This isn't something I'll be doing right away but... I've had some CBR600 carbs stashed for three or four years now. Youtube sound clips are currently sitting on my shoulder whispering nasty things into my ears haha
