Well when I got back to my car last night after finishing work I noticed the passenger mirror folded in, it was getting dark and I couldn't see any damage to the mirror so I folded it back out, got in drove home put the car in the garage didn't think anything of it. until this morning when in the light I found someone had hit the whole side from passengers door back. most of the marks should come out, but it's put a couple of cracks in the rear light and damaged the bumper corner. I understand accidents happen, but the fact they didn't leave a note to say sorry for something they know they have done irritates me, it may just be a car to them but to me when I've spent time, effort and money to get it to where it is now, well it's very frustrating to say the least. I know it's not a show car by any means, but that's not the point. One person's view of rubbish could be another's pride and joy. Sorry if I'm rambling but it's just very annoying! why can't people just be honest!

Its horrible , some people are just like that , all i can say is don't get angry at them , pity them for having no moral compass .
I was sat in my car in the supermarket the other day and some bloke in his 60s stood by his car door and opened right out so it really thunked my car , so hard it bounced off then hit it again . No thought that it might hit someones car [ his was a jag ] .
He didnt see me at all untill he sat in his car and i banged like fkkc on my window and gave him the upturns hand and ' hey ' look . He just gave a slight nod and started to get ready to move straight away . I got out as he was moving as i thought no way I'm letting him drive off if her had done something .
Luckily there was no damage , i was more pssedi off that he did not even apologise or seem to give a monkeys , he was more concerned with getting away from the embarrasment he felt .

Exactly the reason I've started taking up two spaces I used to hate seeing someone do it but after my uncles car being hit twice and badly damaged with no details left I started doing it myself. I know it's selfish and you can say what you want but I would not be happy if it happened to me. Panel beating ain't cheap/fun either!

Exactly the reason I've started taking up two spaces I'm not sure that's a clever strategy. The solution to selfish idiots isn't becoming a selfish idiot.

I'm not sure that's a clever strategy. The solution to selfish idiots isn't becoming a selfish idiot. Just don't want my cars getting battered by someone and having to fork out for body repairs that's all... People could view that as arrogant rather than a move to protect your own car though. There's also a possibility of someone trying to squeeze into the gap being more likely to cause damage than someone parking alongside you in the regular fashion ?

It's only a car after all, who cares about it getting scratched, first world problems and all eh?
In all honesty whilst I am not a fan of parking over two bays does it really take much consideration for people not to scrape or dent another's pride and joy? It is part of the reason why the Escort doesn't see much of the road now I hate to say. My now deceased Mundaneo had a steering rack ruined (and a damaged bumper) thanks to a careless prick who really should have: a) taken better driving lessons. b) Been on the road? If you damage something as significant as a steering rack on a car should you even be on the road (i.e potentially being involved in a crash etc.!).
The above is an isolated case however.

Just don't want my cars getting battered by someone and having to fork out for body repairs that's all... I know why you're doing it. I suspect you'll get more hassle (and potentially damage) from being 'that twit who parks in two spaces' than you would risking parking like a normal, respectful person. I reckon you'd just be better off parking in a less crowded area of the car park.

People are just arseholes really. I've lost track of people parking so close to my defender that I can't open the back door. I try to park the Porsche right out of the way to save some knob opening a door on it. Its the whole "I'm more important" mentality that makes people pull out on you or park 6 foot from the kerb on a narrow road. Idiots.

The problem is cars are just getting bigger but parking spaces are unchanged and if anything getting smaller

With my Cadillac, being a hearse, people keep their distance. It wont fit in some carparks due to length (ooeerr missus) But i would have to say , that people who take up 2 spaces, despite their good intentions, will get me parking right against their car, as it comes across as rude or depicts the owner as being decrepit/deficient in good manners. Just saying nothing inferred Hell if i can get the Cadillac in one space , then a smaller car can fit as well.

Always park if i can in a quiet part of car park even if i have to walk further mrs being disabled means the bays allocated are wide to miss another car but sure the odd dents that appear are from car park lunatics when I'm on my own Saw someone hit a car the other week and drive off really fast before could get number Also saw an old codger in an immaculate clio run into a concrete post twice horrible expensive noises but he just reversed out and drove off frightening stuff

Always enter a game of 'safest place to park' when entering a large carpark, drive around looking for end spaces usually and park right up to the edge giving the most space to someone else's door as possible.

Parking across two bays may also get you a nice parking fine in some car parks.

I tried the two spaces thing years back and on more than one occasion someone shoehorned their car alongside, to do it properly I suggest two spaces and park diagonally, this scares people and you often end up with four spaces to yourself. After that I bought a plastic car and people just bounce off it......

trouble with parking over 2 spaces is that certain folk will twig thats its someone fussy and key /damage it out of spite or squeeze their car up the side of it to teach you a lesson
its just the poopy world we live in , nothing is anyones fault anymore , had the arch stoved in on our focus the other day and no note or nowt

I get what you're all saying. I don't do it all the time, I've only done it when parking is real tight like here; Like I've explained I don't do it out of selfishness...

Like I've explained I don't do it out of selfishness... We know that but if I see one car taking up two spaces my normal response is "inconsiderate fecker!" :-D
