I bought this car back in November from misterbob on here because I was taking my daily V70 off the road to do some work to it. I bought the 480 because it was a quirky fun runaround to use while the V70 was off the road and because it had OMG POP UP LIGHTS!!!
Around mid-December (earlier than expected) my V70 was back in daily service...but the same week my GF's car broke down and she's been using the 480 as a daily ever since. Over the weekend she got her car back after a protracted repair (delayed for a number of reasons, Christmas being one of them) and the lovely little 480 is now 'surplus' to our needs, even though we'll both miss it because it's a fun thing to own and drive. It was also lent to jrevillug for a week just after Christmas when his car was out of action. Again, it performed well during his time commuting in it and I am sure he can vouch for what a good little car it is?
I can confirm that it's a great little car. I've done quite a bit of driving in it, and as said, my girlfriend has been using it daily for a number of months without any problems whatsoever. Since buying it I have changed the water pump for a new one, fully flushed through the heater system including the matrix, stripped and rebuilt the drivers door card, inner door handle and latch/lock on the drivers door, new wiper blades, new exhaust rubbers....and Chris (Diabolu) kindly gave the whole car a machine polish which has resulted in a beautiful shine.
The car starts first time, every time. It has no knocks or rattles from the engine and I can confidently say that this is a cracking car. It drives great, changes gear well, corners well and there is nothing untoward to report whatsoever mechanically.
Here is a summary of the good points:
Cracking engine and gearbox
Excellent overall condition
Super shiny black paint with retro red pinstripe
Full leather interior in two tone black/grey
Clarion radio cassette with 6 disc Clarion CD changer in the glovebox
POP UP LIGHTS!!!
Retro 80's styling that the chicks dig (GF's mates have confirmed this)
Electric windows
Electric mirrors
Power steering
Central locking
Electric glass sunroof
Lots of history and paperwork
There are a few minor faults with the car, but none really detract from it being used and enjoyed (as my GF and I can vouch for having used it regularly since getting it).
The fuel computer thing doesn't work so there is no way of telling how much fuel is in there. It's not been a problem for us because we just fill it up after every 200-300 miles on the trip. This is a common fault on the 480 and apart from a quick look at some earthing points when I first got it, I've not had time to investigate further.
The gas struts in the boot are pretty useless but I have fashioned an 'authorised Area 52 spec solid gas strut override upgrade accessory' which does a damn fine job of preventing a slab of glass from cracking your skull open when loading/unloading the boot. This priceless piece of equipment is included in the sale.
There is a crack in the windcreen up the nearside. It's only about 2" into the screen up the side and is not an MOT failure. It also hasn't got any worse since we got the car.
There is some lacquer flaking along the top of the drivers door frame, but that's the only real paint issue. There are some very minor rust blemishes on the bottom of the doors and the leading edge of the offside front wing, but I do mean minor. It's a very, very solid car.
I've probably made the car sound worse than it is? It really is a great little thing and I will be sad to see it go.
I would be more than happy to drive the car anywhere in the country (and beyond) and as proof of this, would be happy to deliver it to anyone interested in buying it, wherever you are in the mainland UK no matter how far from Bristol as long as my fuel and train fair home again are covered. This hopefully negates the 'I wish you were closer' arguments and also illustrates my confidence in the car.
You can see the original advert here from when I bought it from Bob. Have a look through in case there is anything I have missed?

I also took some photos the other day, but these were just as the light was going (my GF had just got home from work in it) and I didn't have time to wash it before it got dark. It's covered in dirt from being used daily, but gives you some idea of the condition of this car.
(apologies about there being LOTS of photos!!)
Photos of the interior to come. Thanks for looking.
