One more reason why I shouldn't have to pay the tv licence I only watched BBC2 and that was Top Gear, with Clarkson gone the show will go to hell in a handbasket, it wont work or survive very long. The BBC should just cancel TopGear its had a good run, Clarkson love him or hate him was TopGear, I personally feel sorry for him its a curse word way to lose your job and to be kicked out a show you've held together for nearly 30 years.

Just a thought .. the 3 of them might start there own production company make it themselves and sell it all over the world ... as Clarkson would no longer be employed by the bbc couldn't the bbc buy it and still show it under what ever name Hammond may and Clarkson brand it as.

Shame it's gone tits up, but I couldn't see them deciding anything else.... Even though it's said Clarkson did seem to do everything possible behind the scenes to make amends after lamping the producer! (Apologies by text, email and in person, then he reported himself for the assault!).
So many folk mouthing off online about 'the lefty BBC', 'political correctness gone mad' etc, when even in director Tony Hall's statement he goes to great lengths to say it was just this incident, not any issue with Clarkson in general that made the decision not to renew his contract. All the anti-Clarkson stuff seems to have always been pretty much stirred up by the media rather than anything from inside the BBC.
Hopefully the BBC don't just carry on the same format with new presenters, as it'll be all to like the dreadful cover-bands that are the current Top Gear America etc... Hopefully they do something totally new and original, and the old three go and make something equally fresh on Netflix or similar.

Punch someone at work today, see how many signatures will pay your mortgage... it wasn't supprising he went.
Anyway, I don't think anyone can replace the three. Look how much we slagged off The Classic Car Show recently, and that's full of things we like!!

In 2012 Clarkson sold his share of the rights to TG back to the BBC, And in my opinion in 2012 was around the time TG started getting too staged and silly, The producers have been pushing the concept in the wrong direction for a while and ( in my opinion ) the three presenters JC,RH and May have got sick and hatched this plan to sharp exit stage left, Hammond and May's contracts are up for renewal and JC is daft enough to void his contract in such a way, Result all three are free from the TG burden with a perfect opportunity to fill the void TG has left. Exactly what usedabused says ^^^^. Jezza sells up his rights in TG, then sees how it goes with the usual oily green/PC Beeb agenda, and engineers his way out of his contract. The three Amigos are then free to go do what they do best, independently. BBC loses a shedload of taxpayers money (what else is new?) and the publicity from the furore ensures that whatever Clarkson, Hammond & May do next will get off to a great start.

GM isn't a natural presenter and admits that himself. he only does the tv work because they threw ridiculous cash at him (his words). JC invented the current top gear format and practically wrote the scripts himself....let it die swiftly

The BBC press release also says they are trying to work out a way of completing the last three shows of the current series. So maybe May and Hammond will do an ending tribute show? Who knows.

^^ The BBC need to use the footage that they already filmed for the segments as it'd be such a waste not to use it...!!!
Anyhow... Guy Martin for TG?! No... I don't think this is what he'd be suited to as it's too polished for the wonderfully rough and ready chap...!!!
How about Suzy Perry...?! She knows her motors and she'd add a certain amount of pizzazz to things...
However, I would have to say (as have many...) that TG without Jeremy Clarkson is like bacon without bread or The Professionals without the Ford Capri... It's just not as it should be!!!
So, let Top Gear go and start something new is the approach I would take if it were down to me...
The 'Famous 3' will end up doing their own thing elsewhere and rightly so...
It's just a shame that JC did what he did as that's just not on but it's a hard one to judge in my mind as in a normal workplace you'd be out on your ear in an instant but if you're on the television or on the football pitch it all becomes just a little bit more different...!!!
Oh well, what do I know...?!

I'd say without JC,it's over. This! As much as I love watching Guy Martin on TV, I don't think he'd be a fit for Top Gear. Both of these above are right. I think that the BBC are wrong if they can simply replace them and continue with TG - it isn't a franchise. In saying that, the format had seen it's day and needed changing.

I've had my say already, but I just had to pop on here to say how impressed I am with the maturity of the discussion. I feared this thread would crash, burn and get locked early in page 2.

According to the daily mail clarkson may and Andy wilman have already been in meetings deciding there next move,I'd say clarky may and Hammond will stick together as well as wilman,as far as guy Martin having a go at it I hope for his sake he doesn't,I'm a huge fan of guy's and watch everything he does but I just can't place him on tg .

Top gear has been fading badly for the past two years IMHO unless it was just my interest waning?
Clarkson caused this on purpose to generate public outcry and demand to get a better contract at a new channel.
Sky have said no already I think I heard - Netflix and another channel that I can't recall have been rumoured.
Either way in terms of getting a new presenter in I think it's unlikely anyone will want to touch it for fear of failing in high profile. Good shouts would be anyone with a general BBC salary rather than contracted to a specific show so Suzy perry might be a good shout.
I think they'll just use the pre-recorded footage up as a series of clips without the studio interludes to introduce them - maybe someone will just do voiceovers - the lottery voice of the balls.
Then it will go away for a few years like it did ten years ago and maybe come back similar to it's original format.
Either way I'm amazed about how many people have been in uproar about it - it's just a program and will be back on another channel anyway - it's not as if someone has murdered JC?!

Who cares. It's a television show, its not important. If you want to get your car fix for an hour Sunday night go for a drive or go in the garage or do something that is in real life. X2 This thread is just people repeating everything that's been said already. Quite like an episode of Top Gear!! Thank god it's gone!!!

.......Anyway......
There are many episodes that made me smile also many that made me embarrassed and slightly uncomfortable but then again my kids have given them emotions at times and I love them to bits...
That is all.

Think about a generation of children that love the Stig thanks to the program, it doesn't just happen its magic when you can appeal to adults and children in what is represented as a factual car based entertainment program.
Of course its a sad day and my son said he will miss it as we used to sit and watch it together as it was something light hearted that we could both watch on a Sunday evening as lets face it children couldn't care less how scripted it is.

If they do reinvent it on another channel I hope they can use the same music. Remember when F1 went to ITV and they didn't use The Chain?
Top Gear without Jezza will be like BBC F1 coverage is now without Murray, a pale shadow of it's former self.
