So I have just replaced an old (circa 20 year old) Facet Redtop fuel pump which had failed for a new one, and it appears as though it "ticks" all the time rather than running to pressure and then only "ticking" on demand, if you see what I mean. Currently the car doesn't have a pressure regulator, and the pump pressure has found the weakness of the also 20 year old fuel pipes, fittings and filter.........
Does anyone know if the spec of the Redtop has changed in the last 20 years and they don't run "on demand" and therefore require a pressure regulator, or if I'm just unlucky (again.......) and need to change all my pipes, clamps and filters ??

I had a new Facet silver top pump fail not long after i bought it, seems the quality of them isn't what it used to be.
It was used with quality pre and post pump inline filters and a Facet regulator.
Replaced it with a cheap unbranded pump off E-bay and that works a treat, carry a spare just in case.
Never buying a Facet pump again.
[EDIT] Sorry, just re-read your post, your pump is working, pressure is the problem, sounds like you need to replace the lines and clamps, good idea to run a regulator though as i think the red top runs at about 6psi, too much for most carbs, my twin Dellortos only need 3psi [EDIT].
Still cant recommend Facet.

Based on my experiences with them, I'd always use a pressure regulator for feeding carbs. Regardless of what the manufacturers claim.

The old facet pump behaved like an SU pump, pulsed to prime the carbs then only "ticked" once in a while to maintain pressure. The new one pulses all the time so I wondered if something had changed with them over the last few years.
The engine is a modestly tuned Rover V8 so the pump is massively over-spec'd for the duty, being the biggest Facet Redtop they do with something like 6-8psi capability and a huge fuel flow rate, but I thought (how silly of me........) for ease of installation I'd replace like-for-like. Now it seems will I either have to replace all the flexible fuel lines (good practice when recommissioning I know) and get a Filterking regulator like I have on my track mini. Or get a different pump.
It just irks me, I am irked !
