Plenty of this style of cars alive and well in Coventry. Will try and get some pics on my travels. And the Black Country area, Dudley, Oldbury etc. they seam to be ten years behind everyone else over there. To be fair though I had some of the best days of my life at some of the big illegal cruises in the late 90's/early 00's. Was great fun at the time. Shame the authorites have put a big stop on it now though. High court enforcements banning anything like that in a lot of areas around here in the Midlands.

I hope that some of these cars remain preserved in this state. Whilst they're no longer fashionable or seen as tasteful, they mark a point in time for modified cars. Many of us love the old 70s custom cars from the Street Machine era, but I'd imagine some of those languished unloved somewhere a decade later to snorts of derision!

Saw an E30 convertible with a similar kit on it to the one above a couple of weeks ago near Lakeside in Thurrock was in great condition and looked awesome from the rear! Wish I'd got a pic but was driving.
I was well into max power in the mid to late 90's, I bought a new Saxo VTR after seeing a preview pic in the magazine in 1997! Team dynamics wheels followed soon after I got it!

Still a couple of people repping OTT bodywork - one example was at Pride of Longbridge this weekend And, on a similar max-power theme (or maybe even, inspired by max power?) That period when manufacturs were releasing their own cars with flip-paint? Terrible photos I'm afraid - the excessive amounts of sun kinda overwhelmed my poor phone camera

wasnt the gsi3000 put up as a prize and not long after it'd got written off, would be great to see the cars from this era again, I remember laughing my tits off when I read that. They put loads of effort into ruining a good carlton and it got wrecked. It was just deserts after they destroyed a Skoda Estelle, Lada Riva, Chrysler Sunbeam and a reliant in the Wheel of Death feature.

I had loads of the old mags like performance vw & max power mags,to name a few an old mate had his car featured twice. Once on its own & the second time with awesome gti's Peach mk1 If memory serves me it was the first driveable mk2 vr6 golf Some may remember it along with his yellow p reg colour concept golf & his light blue mk1 cab g60 powered golf.. Most of the cars in performance vw had his sticker in the front or rear windows .......Deuchcar..... I'm sure it was in this issue. m.ebay.co.uk/itm/391114345338?nav=SEARCHFound his blue g60 img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/StuMc712/2010-3-10.jpg

I loved that mk2 that they did [ it was a mk2 wasnt it ] , dark blue with rallye front and white dymag rims . I would gladly have that today .
Some great old VWs , max power did 2 cars from Durham i think , a mk2 and a mk3 and the mk2 was painted blackberry mettalic , a fantastic colour .
I can also remember reading a story , I'm not sure which mag , but it was a couple of blokes that owned a mk1 golf in Lhasa green that they stuffed into the back of someone so they put a g60 engine in , probably one of the first . Can anyone remember what that was in as i would love to get a old copy of that magazine .
Also the light blue golf mk1 with a 16v engine that was in revs owned by some surfer dude , that was ace .

Yes Dave it was a mk2, with the white alloys. The first time it was in it had round headlights with full size grill deleting front spots, Someone keyed it so put g60 front on respray & recaro front seats, reg was A 2 VRG
He got hold of a very small sticker saying mark that he put inbetween the A& 2

Mad thing is most of the cars then were sub 10 years old, we're looking at mk 2 Golfs, mk4 Escorts, E30s, they were all nearly new in the early 90s. Modding of newish cars is pretty much a no no these days.
I'll have to dig out a photo of my mk3 Fezzy 1.6S circa '95, my attempt at a Max Power inspired car. Fairly mild by cover car standards but a long, long way from the standard car I bought.

Found this Dave while having a mooch about. I remember the bonnet scoop from a Renault 19 16v, guessing the new owner painted it white. pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=231507239671&alt=web

TSW Venoms (on one of the mag pics above) - Really popular for a year, everyone had them, now less popular than 3 spokes!! Three spokes are awesome. They did some mad sizes and offsets of Venoms but they must have only sold one pair of each... Is that Ian Birch's VR12? *n

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

^^^ That is indeed Ian's VR12, and it inspired some mental car builds around that time, including Squint's twin engined RS Turbo pickup and Steve Nixon's twin engined R5 GTT. Whilst the style of the cars exteriors wasn't generally to my taste, I admired the engineering that went into them, as with claymore and his Volvo T10K from this very parish.....
