Having owned lots of motors, that are usally picked up after the old " I have always fancied one of them" thought pops up in your head. Truth being the " always fancied" usally is interpreted as " I have seen one before. I have not owned one yet, wonder what it's like". But a Mercedes w108 up to a w123 have always been on the old bucket list as well a 60's beetle and a split screen camper amongst some others.
I had a corrado vr6 that I really liked. Such a cool cat but the Merc itch was getting strong.
So I sold the raddo and made nice profit from it.
So the hunt was on for a good priced reasonable w114 or w123. It had to be white or cream or brown , red interior perhaps cream at a push, and not a huge project
So the search began far and wide and all I found was rot boxes. I was beginning. To regret selling the raddo.
One popped up fairly close. No pictures of it curse word poor description, so called the seller who was some old boy that had owned it for 6 years but wanted another mercedes but a convertible. Description of the car wasn't painting a pretty picture of it, but it was cheap. So went and viewed it.
And it was a mixed bag of curse word and greatness.
Flaws being completely missed matched interior. Two blue merc seats from a later merc that had been badly fitted. Window don't open, heaters don't work, horrible green colour body that was different shades on every panel bar roof some roof scabs.
How ever it did look fairly solid for its age. 3 owners lots of history. 12 months Mot. But it was one of them I should of walked away from, so made a offer and it came home with me.
After driving it for a little bit I realised that this wasn't the car I wanted, I really wanted a stack light, or a white one of these. I felt more African dictator than pimp in it. So I stuck it back up for sale.
But as just before it sold I had a massive change of heart and decied to give the car a chance.
So the work began.
The window mech was repaired so was the heaters, a nakamichi tape deck fitted,
Seats and carpets tool out. Re dyed the carpets and swapped the interior for a cream my tex interior, re packed all seat bases
So that was a huge cosmetic improvement to the car, but still not feeling pimp.
So the grill back and head lights were blackened with yellow fogs
And did the rear indicators red
And the old photo shop came out
Really like the old "mr whitefolks" old school pimp look on the shop.
So it went in for a roof wrap and door frames in a matt white vinyl
Wheel trims centres painted white
Then thanks to mrspeedy on here for hiring out his compressors. The car then got dropped with a 2 rear and 3 front cut on the springs.
Not settled in these pics
Then straight round to the body shop
New arches with the mandatory bodge found from previous owners.
Badges and antenna smoothed out
All rust repair done dinks taken out and ready for paint.
White walls fitted
And parts pile building up waiting for its return from paint.
And more on the way. But this is about as far as I am at the moment. It's looking more gangster than taxi driver as it progresses so fingers crossed it will be done and dusted in the next couple of weeks
