This Monza is currently on ebay fitted with a 24 valve motor and manual gearbox. The motor appears to be a 4.0 ltr, could this be a special unit or just a valve cover off something more exotic?

That's been on EBay before, some time ago admittedly. They're using the same pictures as last time, Not sure if it really is a 4.0, could be just the cover?!
I'm not keen on the way they've patched the front suspension turrets, bit of a bodge! And the front shock top mounts are definitely not correct and don't even appear to be bolted to the turrets! Shonky!!

Friend of mine bought it last year but got made redundant to either sold it on or cancelled the sale.
If I bought it I'd only keep the engine which is definitely a 4.0 apparently.
Maybe the wheels.
I think this is all I know.

Was'nt ther a 4.0 variant of the 12v engine? I am sure some went to South Africa.
Yep, those turrets look like they wanted to meet each other.

3.6 12v and 3.9 12v but the 24v was the 4.0. I think they'll go over 4 litres.

About 260hp which is plenty.
Easier to find in mainland Yerp though.

Whoever did the conversion may have done other mods like a limited slip diff and maybe suspension and braking mods, might make a awesome trackday car when welded up.

Agreed. It looks quite low and an LSD is a sensible swap if not already in there.
A few extra horses must make a world of difference but it's not a GSE so not one for my collection.
Not sure what the deal is with those strut tops but if they're loose it would just fall off the road. The turret repairs aren't the nicest to look at but if they are strong then it's not a problem. I've seen worse patches, and bigger.
As I said, I'd pull the motor for something else and drop a 12v back in there.
That said, I'd like to explore horse increasology on a 12v before going down the "easy" route.

The 4.0 Litre engine is a nice lump but not without problems
Head gaskets are very difficult to find and the land between the bores is much smaller than a 3.0 (engine was bored and stroked)
The other issue is they had a hotter cam fitted but with the OE Hydraulic tappets so they tend to rattle a bit on start up or tickover.
Loads of Rocker covers got dumped on the market a few years ago so I'd want to know what the engine code was before I bought that car based on the engine
I actually like the wheels too
Mantzel did a 4.0 liter version too

Oh and they got an uprated gearbox (both Auto and Manual) and they have a reputation for breaking them too

Sent from still on my honeymoon using proboards The turrets are a real soft spots on these cars, i've seen people welding in thicker metal on top like you see in the picture, to toughen up that general area.
