I'm having a heated discussion on another forum which is not a car forum (yes, they do exist ) about this; I maintain that the dogs on the roof would not fail an MOT as they are no more dangerous than a roof rack, driving school sign or even Police lights but I am being told that it is illegal and would fail a test. Whats your opinion? Dave.

Don't see why they'd fail really, I doubt they have any sharp edges.

Providing they are securely attached, I don't think it would be a reason for faliure, but I'm not an MOT tester... EDIT: just trying to imagine what forum features MK3 Fiestas with plastic dogs glued to the roof....

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

:)It wouldn't fail an MOT test because of the dogs.

It might not fail an MOT but I might feel compelled to swerve into it, just to make sure no-one else would ever have to look upon it.

I am sure if its securely attached it wouldnt fail an MOT although it would probably fail an SVA test if the car had to have one as the radii would probably be to sharp. No different to an ice cream cone on ice cream van or a kingdom body kit on a barry bastardmobile and I cant beleive I just made that analogy

Its a Mk3 Fiesta so it'd probably fail on many other things anyway!

Having resin sculptures of dogs crudely body-fillered to the roof is not in itself an MOT fail, however, if one or more of the dogs is holding a pair of binoculars, then this actually contravenes so many construction & use regulations its simply untrue, and is therefore an instant fail. I thought you would have known that, its common knowledge.

the car is a dog - never mind the roof adornments - i cant see why it should fail, if attached properly - just my opinion - have you asked an MOT tester ( or on an MOT testers forum)

Would maybe be classed as a Mascot? So not sure if part of test? I'd be embarrassed to take that for an MOT with those things stuck on the roof anyway! ;D

Cant see why it would fail. The only thing it would come under would be sharp edges protruding, which would be up to the tester to determine. If I was a tester id atleast leave an advisory along the lines of "dogs glued to roof, vandal hazard please remove"

Sharp edges are only an MOT failure if caused by corrosion or damage.....neither applicable in this case.

Maybe it contravenes the dangerous dogs act.

Nope, Can't see any reason to fail that. As has been said, theres lots of stuff gets stuck on the roof of cars, taxis, small vans...
When ever anyone says "that illegal" or "thats an MOT fail" I have to ask them under what part of the test or which law. 99 times out of 100 they dunno, they just "think it should be".
Remember, opinions count more than facts these days

It might not fail an MOT but glueing dogs to your roof (or anywhere else) is animal cruelty. Can't you just tell them to sit? I guess they'd come off at about 5mph. Maybe you should put them in a kennel and bolt that to your roof. Personally, if I had to transport dogs around I'd buy an estate car.
Have I missed the point?
