Hi everyone,
I'm looking to get in contact with anyone that knows about examples of the Cortina Savage (or Perana). I'd like to know some historical information such as how/if you could order one through Ford back in the day or if they were supported by Ford. Any info relating to Savages in Australia would be AWESOME.
I'm hoping to use this information to support to an engineer the concept of the v6 Savage Cortina as a base for a v6 conversion of my own.

You might want to try on buysellcortina, there's a few savage owners and historians there or alternativly there's a chap in Aus named Nick Hunt, he's a mine of info on cortina crayfords (has 3 or 4 of them), crayford offerd a V6 conversion as well as the soft top, that might lead to a firmer "factory approved conversion" tag than the savage if that ave falls through ? As far as i know although Ford honerd their warranty on the savage it only coverd the body and trim not the drivetrain and cars were purchased from raceproved not through a Ford dealer.

There were a few companies doing V6 conversions to fords. There were the obvious ones like Crayford, Their mainstay being a raft of convertible conversions to virtually anything that had wheels and a roof, But they are well known for the V6 savages, mostly to the Mk2 & 3 cortina. they also sold kits to convert cortinas, hence the existence of Mk1"Savages" Superspeed, were a semi works supported company who was run by the Young Bros, British touring car winners, they did a lot of prototype conversion for Fords, they made various conversions to Anglias 1500, 1500GT and the little red rooster with a full out 1650cc pre crossflow on webers, They certainly made V6 Mk1,2,3 cortinas, V6 Corsairs, V6 Transits, V6 Mk1 escorts, V8 Capris and much more, including many performance modifications to 4 cylinder engines, of course there were smaller companies making conversions, LUMO is one, Luton Motors, they made Mk2 Cortina conversions, V6 cortinas, and Lotus engines 1600Es,

Looks like plenty of choice over there. Not so much here. I was hoping to be able to use out VERY common 3.8 v6s here (given up on Rover 3.5 idea as I couldn't get it to fit without cutting structural steel) but that would require me to prove a savage was available in Aus (for the increased weight) but all is not lost - I'm now looking at the Isuzu 6VD1 as a good donor engine. More resaerch to be done though.

In Australia, and to a lesser extent here in New Zealand, the Mk3 and Mk4 Cortina was available with a choice of any of the UK engine types or the 3.3 litre and 4.1 litre cast iron pushrod six cylinder engines as fitted to the Ford Falcon of the time. As far as I know Perana was a South African V8 Capri.

Perana did do V8 conversions on capris and there are some in Aus, they also did pinto Mk1 escorts (before Ford did) and V6 Mk2/3 cortinas but not a Ford product, it was a private conversion but sold through ford dealers AFAIK.
