Hi guys, newbie here. I picked up a '79 Viva last week, which was advertised on here. A 2 door saloon 1256 in orange tan
I love the car and it drives lovely but the exhaust is a bit on the home made/loud side for me.
That is the first thing I wanted to sort, and without breaking the bank ideally. What I had thought is having a full stainless system made up to suit, as I want the tailpipe and backbox out of view, but I also want to maintain some of the raspiness.
Currently it is a home brew system made from Landy Discovery parts with a single Cherry Bomb mid box and nothing else but a really long tail pipe.
I am wary of going to have a custom system made up and then it not having the note that I wanted, so I thought about using a bike can.
I have done a bit of a search and read about back pressures and flows, but how do you know which is suitable and which is not?
Could anyone spread some light please?
Thanks guys

I can't help on flow and pressures but I have a fireblade OE silencer going spare which seems in terms of theoretical flow very adequate for a smaller car engine. PM me if you want some details, ect, don't want to turn this into a selling kind of thread.

It's a 3 bolt flange type one but it shouldn't be hard to cut a plate to bolt on to weld to your existing system to help cut the noise back. If you are after slip-on, they are quite dear from what I've seen when we trying to find one. Other option is another cherry bomb at the back, that will definitely take the edge off the tone. You could try that on the cheap (free) by scrounging a standard car centre silencer from a fast-fit centre skip (with permission) and holding it over the end of the exhaust, they are give or take a similar construction internally to cherry bombs.

I've priced up some new and used universal cans with 51mm inlet on ebay, around £100 which i didn't think was too bad. I'd prefer to have a full new stainless exhaust made and then at least i know it's done and it should last
