Some will, but many won't have heard of Rainer Buchmann.
Some will, but many won't have heard of b+b Auto.
I've been a long time fan, I've seen various articles and features over the years, I've also got books like 'Dream Cars' and 'Fantastic Cars' which feature some of his creations. Whilst working on something the other day, I stumbled across the b+b website and that was it, my entire afternoon was lost in fascination as I worked my way through the pages and pages of amazing cars (and other things) that b+b are responsible for creating.
You can keep your Rauh Welt and Bisimoto cars (both of which I really like, and having worked with both Nakai-San and Bisi Ezerioha recently, I have even greater respect for what they do) - it's just that I'll take a b+b Porsche any day please. Now, in fact. Don't trouble yourself wrapping it...
So, what is it that I love so much about Buchmann's motors?
I guess it's the brilliant and slightly bonkers 'techno future vision' that he brought to already aspirational cars. Just like Franco Sbarro and Willy Koenig, he wasn't afraid to take an already great car and just make it a bit mental. Different levels of mental depend on how you view the cars and you need to take into account WHEN these were made. Just look at some of the interiors, the wheels, the super hi-tech stereo and TV installs, then consider this was the late 70s and early 80s.
There is way, way to much for me to write about here, so I'm going to post a few of the many, many pictures and leave you guys to pour through the awesome website and post some highlights of your own.
The world needs more people like Rainer, Franco and Willy, where restraint and understatement are pushed aside in the face of excess and rainbow striped electric Recaro seats. Bring back the 80s high end tuners I say!

Oh, and I also happen to think his b+b logo is one of the coolest logos ever made!
