I have a 1977 Lincoln Versailles with the 351 Windsor small block V8. It is dead and I am told by the engineers that it is beyond rebuilding. It was knocking pretty bad to be fair. I have the option of a 1988 Ford Econoline van motor, which I believe is called a 5.8 liter V8 but is basically a revamped 351 Windsor. I know that the front end drive stuff is different and there are some internal differences such as a single piece crank seal and the like. However my plan is to simply pull the 5.8 and fit up the intake, carb, distributor and front end drive stuff from the Versailles, along with the sump and exhausts and thus it should more or less just drop in as a service replacement for the dead 351W.
I may need to swap the timing cover and so on to allow for the front dipstick as well
Is there any reason we know of that this won't work as a plan? Is anything odd changed in fitment of stuff on these engines over the years which makes my plan not viable?
