Well, have done some more stuff (lots that i have not yet mentioned but will do when i get round to taking some pictures. The inner front wing was starting to separate from the chassis leg on both sides and it had a bit of a bend in it, i i fired up the top quaility direct from shenzen no expense spend "kende" welding melting hole maker and had at it. problem: slightly less bent (i.e. good enough) welded to my usual poor standard Etched Thankfully, once undersealed i won't have to look at it! Re-inforced the splitter The longer more central bars are tied into these 3mm wall alloy tubes that are then tied into the alloy bumper carrier Oil cooler plumbed and routed, (still need to make up the air guides) but the placement is good. for those who want to avoild getting bummed for about £100 for some stupid conversion fittings, i used alloy 1/2 inch bsp fittings which i then countersunk and welded onto the original pipework like so. the fittings were about a fiver The oil cooler will be secured at the bottom (probably not really required given the upper brackets with Dzus aircraft fasteners to just a quarter turn and then the bumper can be removed Its more complete than this now but you get the general gist Have also cleaned out removed any rust from and undersealed with 3m vulcanised shutz all the front arches and front underbody, but no one wants to see that curse word.

Just found it - I'm bookmarking it - are we up to date now or have you still got more to add? chronologically its up to date, but there is a fair bit that has not been documented yet, like race shifter, diy gearbox mounts, interior install and all kinds of other guff. Will try and get my finger out and get it pictured, making all the front bumper stuff took absolutely ages though!

All in one gauge kit (bit like a rally budget stack dash) has Oil temp, Oil Pressure, Water temp, Battery volts, 8k Rpm meter, oh and a clock  Comes with all the relevant sensors and adapters £80 I used the same kit on my track Monza - needs a really clean signal from the coil to get the rpm right with a six pot using the correct settings on the dip switch - Also quite badly affected by glare so needs to have some sort of visor/shield or be recessed in the dash to stop it being affected by daylight/relections Downside was no speedo Sensors were good and VFM was excellent. Folded bit of alloy did the trick for me (I'd removed all the dash)

I hauve bought a set of stepper motor gauges so will see how that goes, could just be the sensor is a bit goofy

right, were am i up to with this. So, drivers seat and harness in Worlds longest body mounted gear lever fitted (keeps the knob nice and close to your hand, personally i prefer to have my left hand no more the 3 inches from my knob at any time) Throw is still shorter than stock. I was not happy with the job i had done on the internal brake lines, so re did it all in Hel orange hose with proper bulkhead fittings. I have also (obviously) put a bit of carpet back in, its the thin carpet out of a four banger, but should keep some of the heat and noise out. It can be removed in minutes with a stanley knife and the floor as all painted up underneath. 4.25 liter plumbed in extinguisher fitted, 3 nozzles in the cabin two in the engine bay Front of the car is de-crusted, welded where needed, seam sealed and undersealed with 3m Full alloy rad fitted, along with purple tag rack and all refurbished PS lines, nearly all the venting and fluid systems are finished. A big 120w thin fan is also fitted using the original harness but with an in car override so you can switch it on as you choose Nearly finished the additional controls and displays, just needs a spot more wiring and painting black (not feeling the orange here). These are proper stepper motor gauges rather than the all in one i was using before. Quite a bit or work going on with this: Essentially its me making (or rather trying) to make a cheap airbox less curse word rather than spending the required 1.5/2k for a posh one. The cheap ones are a right load of tripe as the velocity stacks are just rubbish, even if you cut them off and attach them to flanges you still have the issue that the bellmounths in the actual box are pretty Bullplop so> I just chopped the entire front off. Then using some 3mm aluminium made up a flange, and using velocity stacks taken from the later S54 (e46 m3) plenum the two come together to hopefully give a better result The view from inside: and a test fit (need some 45 degree hoses)

Just to preempt the question (not that anyone is all that interested on here), the velocity stacks are not all on the curse word, its just the only way i could get them all to fit!

This is true! I'm a bit confused by the bias valve. I think I'll need on, but how does the single pipe to rear work when you have 2 pipes to the rear? Or have you lined yours so that they arent diagonally split?

As mk3rob said, fantastic read and I'm really impressed with the quality of your work, especially for a 'track slag'

Or have you lined yours so that they arent diagonally split? Yea, i added that really as a contingency rather than a certainty, having taken all the weight out of the rear and wil be converting to two pot brembo rears and four pot brembo fronts all from different cars (clio fronts and Mitsi evo rears)i was pretty sure the balance would be all to cock. My master cylinder is a three line type so the fronts are independent but the rear is linked and runs to a T section on the rear bench. Love this! Great read too! Looking forward to more updates! Kind words chaps, will try and keep this a bit more upto date and record things as they happen rather than when i remember to take a picture. I am running on a bit of a deadline on this as i want the car to be ready for the three day hillclimb and sprint in April, and there is a lot to be done, plus it all needs to meet MSA spec as i don't want to get bounced out of the event having not passed scrutineering! Off to see if i can find a nomex onesy!

I'd somehow managed to miss this thread up till now, really cool read and I like what you're doing with the M3 As someone who is potentially considering an E36 in the future I'll be bookmarking and following your build
