I always follow yours and ollies threads on 36 coupe and now here. Always interesting to read and generally find you both go from simple bolt on plans to omg race car build. ?? As with many i never have much more to contribute than has already been said so tend to follow in silence.☺

Please note, this is a de-restricted road made one way over the TT fortnight so that bikers (mostly) can get the hammer down in a safer way.
There are no speed limits, no kittens were harmed or laws broken.
thought it may be be of some interest.

I have just discovered this thread and had a good read start to finish. Thanks for taking the time too post all of this, as I appreciate the engineering and have learnt a few bits about the engine as well. Relevant for me at the moment as I am halfway through (slowly) fitting a 3.2 Evo engine into my old E30 touring. It has given me a bit of enthusiasm to push on at least!
Incidentally some friends are over on the island at the moment, I didnt have time this year unnfortunately. We are usually sampling your greenlanes on enduro bikes rather than clogging up the roads with everyone else though!

Andy Ah, an evo lump in an e30 will fly, though i am always a bit dubious about swapping the sump to the e34 single pickup, so i would consider some baffles. If you do pop over feel free to drop me a line if you need anything, happy to help! that video is joy for the eyes and music to the ears! JP Glad you enjoyed it mate, it does make some good noises (and some rattles ) Another who's just found the thread. How had I missed it before? Great work and great words. Wow, feel like i have made it now, all i need is for frankehealy and Mr bravo to comment and i will have peaked and will have to bow out gracefully! Glad you got something from my twaddle!

Likewise regarding the E34 sump, I have already welded in some baffles just in case! I wouldnt mind testing the car out on some of your roads when its done, and ive always fancied heading over to watch some of the classic rallying so maybe i'll combine the two. One day...

i will almost certainly leave this alone after this, and focus on the e30. Probably.... despite the miles the bores are mint, not a hint of a lip Will be getting this on it (Evo head) and some other bits. I have a optimistic power figure in mind but we will see what the actual results are.

So current progress.
I booked two trackdays with Ollie, this was high risk to kick off as if something goes bang, well, you may not be doing the following trackday, and unlike that bummer i don't have a trailer, so i need to drive there and back.
So the smart thing would have been to qive it a once over and a wash, and leave it alone, but i wanted to change the rear arches as although i likes them originally, i didn't any more and i had some engine plans, so what the hell. It go ripped to bits.
A ,mate did a lot of work to help out as if it was just me, it would still be in bits now.
So it all went back together one and half days before i was due to leave, was getting a bit worried.
Engine is now, 3.2 evo head, 3.0 throttles, 3.0 cam ladder, inlet cam welded and fitted on the exhaust as the original exhaust had some damage to the case hardening, evo lifters, new elring head gasket, arp head studs, 3.0 vanos cat cams 285 12.5mm lift cam.
So it then needed mapping, I shall draw a vale over the first day at chipwizards as it was long and rubbish, the car was not being cool, power curve both underwhelming and all over the place. Tried to adjust the exhaust to get more lift at tdc but it was doweled as it was the inlet cam fitted at 180 degrees rotation. so the exhaust was kicked off, and immediately the curve flattened off and the car made cir 320hp.
Tasked ollie with finding an oem backbox in the middle of the night and off to brum.
Jason at HRD had a mint one, so up at dawns crack to fit that on the road side and dodge up some brackets.
Back up to Wizards, and a full day of mapping later it was making 320 from 5500 to 8000 pretty much flat, with an extra 20hp to be found if we put a plank on top of the airbox, its a bit too floppy.
Drive up to Anglsey and collapse into a fetal ball, its been a long few days.

Up at dawns crack and down to the track. first three stints i am driving like a bellend, its been a really annoying few days and i am just hammering the car, its fun, and exciting but not fast as the huge tank slapper past the pit wall illustrates, power steering starts its intermittent failing trick, which i just have to ignore, as there is nothing to be done about it now. Few cool down laps and come in for a bacon stop, out of car, stand in puddle of oil. plums. the entire car is covered, tyres wheels, brakes engine. double plums. Trace the leak to an oil cooler union that has come loose so easily fixed and the engine didn't trow a rod, bit more time on track could have been a different story. So car is fixed but its dripping, i cant take it on track as it will kill someone, or me. At this point a guy who works at the track says i can use the pressure washer, "its down a gravel track, but should be fine" jesus christ, you need a trophy truck to get down it. but i am committed by this point. About half way there, the wind catches the bonnet and folds it over the roof and demolishes the screen. Quadruple plums Scramble out jump on the bonnet a bit to get it latched ad pressure wash it. No obviously the bonnet pins must have rattled out, as i am absolutely certain i did them up, probably, well i though i did them up, at least once that day anyway. So back on track with a car that looks like its been trampled by elephants that have also cockwhiped the screen i take a calmer approach and get some decent quick laps in. but by now time is pressing and its a four hour drive back, though torrential rain with a very second hand looking car, not the best day ever, but could be worse. We now have two days to recuperate and fix all the problems. Jasn at HRD comes up with a new fiberglass bonnet, all be it one with some rather nasty bonnet bulge in, but its better than the one i have which looks like it may just drop off soon. A local company in brum sort out the screen for 130 cash at 10am the same day, so all fixed. twenty bottles of becks later we think it would be a great idea to put a stripe on the bonnet, its on the curse word, and so is the badge. Never mind, its going to be painted. Off the croft, so another four hours of motorway tedium. Croft, excellent day, power steering decides not to **** itsself, bonnet stays down, although i forget to latch one of the pins again, i i don't drive like a pillock so progress is decent. The Kumho v700's are once again cack, as can be seen in the pics where they are trying to escape the rim, but are batter now i have about -3 degrees on the front.

do keep thinking of pushing the rpm limit up to 8500 as its still making more power as rpm increases, but i am a little concerned its going to kick a shim out, which at that kind or rpm will make a right mess

Well, that was an entertaining way to spend parts of my Friday - reading from start to finish another fantastic thread.
Rest assured that for every one of us posting there's probably another 10 reading.
What date's the next adventure?

Essentially, I just can't stop messing with this thing. In all honesty after the Croft day and the best part of another K of road miles the car was in need of some love, the tracking had gone off, two of the wheels were bent, one froma blow out and the other from being too hard over the curbs. the front ball joints were shot and there was an alarming creak under load. So all that was stripped down, new ball joints were pressed into the front (Mahle), both inner and outer track rods were bent, so both were replaced (need to not go over the curbs as much). The rear ball joints were replaced top and bottom with Bilstein items, we shorted some of the crush tubes on the poly bushes as these had been slightly compressed to get some more squish, basically went over and bolt checked everything, greased what needed greasing and fixed what needed fixing. The power steering was unreliable to say the least, so the spare pump was fished out, and stripped down, with every blade and surface being linished and polished Then it was onto the modifications: I spotted a compact Eibach AR on ebay going cheap, having looked closely at the pictures you could see that it actually had 3 part numbers on it, so it turns out they are all the same part but with multiple part numbers, so that was quicly bought and is now fitted. During the dyno runs and tuning wayne noticed that the tp of the aif boy was flapping about with the inlet pulses, by wedging some wood ontop of it, the car picked up between 10 and 20 hp thoughout the range, so it was time to fix that. rolled carbon fiber tube and solid carbon fibre 4mm plate, no movement in this now! Next up was the rear strut brace, it just wasn't upto the job, and dinged and vibrated over bumps, so using a bit of ollie's old roll cage and some steel plate a significantly beefier version has been welded in and tied into the cage feet. Exhaust was too heavy and the cats put too much heat into the cabin after a session, you could actually burn yourself on the tunnel inside the car. So a cheap evo one was bought, the then lambda boss's TIG welded in, and some better heat wrap fitted (takes so long to apply this neatly and makes your hands itch for days) Ollie's e30 had a fuel cell very badly fitted in it, all of which was removed as it didn't fit with his plans for the car, as such i got my mits on it. It was frankly a ball ache, lots of terrible work done with fuel filter elements fitted back to front, and very dodgy piping and iffy gaskets. ATL only sell cork gaskets (presumably because they don't trust themselves to make a flange thats actually true, but they are just not for me, so i bough t some 4mm thick viton sheet and some leather punches and made all new gaskets from that, all the bolts were also replaced. To get it in we needed to remove the spare wheel retainer and weld in a filler plate, fit the tank retaining plates etc and all of the associated pipework, swirl pot, lift pumps, pressure pumps etc. Its still not finished, but its not a million miles off. All the pumps, swirl pot and fittings are in an aluminium enclosure which is suspended on rubber bobbins to manage the vibration The actual lines do not run far into the cabin and instead pas through bulkhead fittings in the original tank covers. The whole set up is: 45l ATL well cell, tripple baffled foam filled with aero filler systec 225lph pressure pump serving as a lift 1.5L proalloy swirl pot 2 x 044 clone 260lph pressure pumps into a manifold Systec ultrafine filter Goodridge fittings Aeroquip Nylon and steel braided hose. Remote fuel pressure gauge permanently fitted for monitoring 2x returns to the tank, with the pot returning to the tank baffle and the engine return to the tank body to minimise fuel heating. Its only temporarily wired for testing but it looks like it will work well. Its was then onto the body. essentially i wanted to be able to run square et0 8.5j with 255's all round but could only squeeze a 225/230 on the front, so it was time to cut the arches off and break out the rivnuts. Finally the horrible grey bonnet has been fettled and painted, and its time for a change of stripe
