well heres the latest big old cruiser to replace that **** jaguar xj8, had one of these before, so i new the hunt was on to find a rustfree one, I'm a tad fussy as some on here will testify!! always makes me more determined to find the right car,when some people will say they are not out there for sensible money, looked at numerous cars including e38 bmws,more jags, and a few rover75s...but knowing how reliable our c class has been i knew really another merc had to be top of the list, got lucky with this one a one owner car with full history,maintained regardless of cost by the 77 year old gentleman i bought it from, he had the wheels fitted a few years ago due to the old originals being tatty,i will be changing them soon for something slightly different, the private plate has to go onto the mans new s class unfortunately!

Thanks rian, will pop past when I'm at my caravan next,, the chap I bought it from was a complete gentleman from the old school, full tank of fuel and he had the car fully Valeted Saturday when it really didn't need it,, a pleasure to meet him and he really has looked after the car

It is now owned by my Dad - Basically, on the back of travelling in mine, he went out and bought a 2001 E240 Avantgarde and after 3 weeks, decided he had made a mistake. The self levelling suspension on mine was SO much better than his. (I am told Avantgarde's are -35mm and 20% stiffer?)

As my Dad is probably in his final year or two of driving, I let him have mine for whatever the price he could get for his. (£600 - £40 profit for me, but at least £600 too cheap for such a perfect example)

He has done around 1000 miles in mine now and loves it to bits as does Mum.

I will get another one, as like you I need a barge but I will get a saloon next time so Wifey will feel safer parking it (We have to turn around in tight courtyard, and reverse onto mt drive)

@mercdan68 - Also mate, if you get around to doing your new saloons headlights, let me know how easy it was. My Dad wants to shine his back up but didn't want to spend £22 on Halfords kit to do it!

Got home early from work today, gave the car a good look over found a few marks I hadn't spotted, don't you always?!! Just being fussy really it a real tidy one, spruced the sills up with some nice gloss black coach paint I had in the garage it's smartened them up nicely, cleaned the seats up with gliptone they've come up nice, next up will be a good claybar this weekend, weather permitting! Just ordered the headlight renovation kit of eBay as the lights are dull as with most plastic style headlights these days,, had a look around a wheel place today in London , but will probably get them off eBay, looking at cades or bbs replicas

I had one , they just go on and on without complaining. But boy , they do rust as hell !
Have you checked underneat the backdoorwindowrubbers? ( hows that for scrabble! ) if it's rustfree , great catch !!! Excellent cars these!

Yep she's as clean as a whistle, found one tiny spot of rust at the bottom of the near side front wing will grind it back treat it and repaint it before the summers over

Well I have a big dilemma tonight ,, just got down to our holiday home armed with a claybar kit more autoglym Polish and some interior cleaner,,,, but there's a big farmer in an even bigger combine harvester doing his best on his many acres of land right behind us, reckon he will be at it all weekend, question A... Shall I go and tell him it's not on to be ploughing ones wheat fields and to pack it in..... Or B get settled in for drinking my beer collection and just give in and go to a boot sale Sunday with the wife?

Well i managed to get the claybar treatment done,, refurbed the headlights and cleaned the engine bay up, now I'm just buttering up the wife so I can buy a new set of wheels very soon.. It's our tenth wedding anniversary this month so a bit of points scoring is on the cards!!!
