Hello once again RR.
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Between myself and a few friends we have a few cars that are in need of some paint. Now they are not show cars by any standard, they never will be, but they could do with a bit of paint being thrown at them.
None of us can justify the £1000 price tag for a new paint job, it would write the vehicles off in all fairness but due to personal reasons we are not prepared to part with them.
Does anyone know of anyone in the south east area offering reasonable budget paint jobs?
We are prepared to prep cars, remove trims, lights, glass, anything like that and are looking for sub £1000, the cheaper the better. Alternatively, If anyone knows of booths for hire I would also be interested in that.

Why not do it yourself ? You could buy or hire a compressor and get paint and bits for a lot less than £1000 obviously . Your already going to do the prep so why not the paint ?
I'm sure you could get a big enough compressor secondhand for a few hundred quid , then all you need is thinners , paint , tack rags, masking and wet and dry .

I have got a cracking Bristol 250L compressor that I have used for painting in the past. My problem boils down to a few points.
- I suck at painting - I don't have the time to be fair to commit to resulting in a decent job - I really suck at painting - Due to moving home I don't really have the space to paint anything - I am really bad at painting To be fair. I have enough space at home to paint my mini, and I will be doing that myself. The problem is, I have a friends cosworth replica that has been sat to one side for 3 years now which I don't have the time or most importantly the space to paint. I am also looking at getting a vito van and I don't have the space for that neither.
If I could find somewhere that did it cheaply it would be more cost effective than my time to do it, balls it up and do it again.
Alternatively if I could find a booth for rent I would give it a go myself.

Why do you not have the time to paint, but you do have the time to do the far more time consuming job of prep? The painting is the easy bit, and if you're doing it CoB you can get an equally good finish without a proper booth.
I'd give it a bash if I were you. Once all the prep is done, just panel wipe it, tack rag then go on with a very light dust coat. Give it ten mins to flash off, then go on with a bit more paint, then a final coat. As long as you're fairly consistent and take care not to go too wet, you'll be fine. Any runs can be rectified easily with wet and dry.
IMHO, you'd be far better off doing that than paying for cheap paint job. They're generally cheap for a reason. Plus, you'll have the job satisfaction afterwards. You can even paint outside if it's not too cold, wet or windy.
