As said earlier, the Police are damned if they do, damned if they don't. If everything is running smoothly it isn't a problem. Then someone decides to push their luck, either by a blatant vehicle offence, or stupid driving. The Police do what they have to do and then, as was mentioned before, the offender gets the hump and starts shouting the odds about minor offences on other vehicles, and his mates start sniping from the back. Rather than face a possible complaint, and to control the situation, back up is called, further bookings ensue. The next meet his heavily Policed. Don't upset a Traffic Cop (if you ever see one), I was one. I stopped a guy for a dodgy bit of rust on the bottom of his front wing, I was going to put some gaffer tape on it for him, it was minor, and give him a VDRS caution. The site won't allow me to type his opening comments, so 9 points later he got the idea and STFU! (and his missus was royally giving him grief too.) Ah yes, failing the attitude test. Easiest way to talk yourself into a ticket.

I was at the Metro for last weeks meet, don't think i'll be going again too many dickheads and boy racers now, the good stuff is getting less and less now, which is a shame as it used to be an excellent meet..

Yup my exact thoughts. I've only been to two this year. That was enough. Used to never miss it.

Hmmmm, I´ve got some evil thoughts... Some days ago I saw a video clip from brazil: Some dirtbag parked his car on a spot reserved for handicapped people. A group of people appeared and sticked blue post-its at his car - probably thousands. Plus a few white ones to form a wheeled chair person sign. The owner came back and was really curse word as his complete car was covered by post-its, so he could only drive away when he removed a good amount, taking some time while a crowd of people (including a police man) was starring (and shouting) at him. Okay, no post-its here, but maybe someone should organize some stickers saying "Thank you for ruining another event, that a majority of civilized people have been enjoying - just until people like YOU came here behaving like an idiot!" Those stickers should be given away to as many visitors, organizers, supporters,... of that event as possible with proper instructions on the peel-off-back paper and as soon some "mis-behaving" idiot starts his "show", his car should be stickerbombed with those stickers. With a strong glue used on them it should take some time to remove them and the owner hopefully re-considers another visit - or better his behaviour. I was going to write "stickerbomb his windshield", but idiots might drive away with a limited sight through the window and cause serious damage to others. Then this would cause real problems for many more, not just the one. You should search "stop a douchebag " in YouTube, they do exactly this to people who drive on the pavement in Russia

This was a "cruise" by me. Possibly 1999. No burn out idiots. Just a load of like minded people out having the crack. Then as you say, bellends, bad press, accidents in other towns etc and it all soon came to an end!! There used to be a really good retro meet at the four ashes pub in four ashes, staffordshire but that soon turned into an everyone event that hastily got shut down. I remember these meets in Telford, used to be very innteresting as there was a vast amount of cars that turned up! its a shame this is long gone!

well i'm going down to southend in my old car at the weekend - wouldn't it be a terrible thing if lots of similar old cars all did the same at the same time! and heaven forbid they park next to each other

Having organised a meet and tried to resolve the problems it was getting as attendee numbers increased I can't see any real solution to the problem. The idiot quota is quite low at most meets, to begin with, then there's a critical mass point where your handful of morons that are effectively booed out of the meet are too large a number to pay attention. Then they show off to prove you can't control them either as an organiser, a group or even with police intervention. Then more people see dickery is okay at that meet and the meet is doomed.
So, the venue was changed and for the first few meets that went really well until the police clamped down on the old venue and some of the dicks moved over to the new venue and ruined it.
It was a great shame and killed off what could have been a really good thing in very short order. As the organiser I was criticised on all sides for being too strict, for not being strict enough, for doing things wrong and not doing enough to make it more fun. You can't win. I would very much like to organise a meet in the future, it was a lot of fun and really rewarding to put something back into our community but I can't see how a free meet-up can be kept sane and I don't want to exclude people by charging to attend a space, that seems very unfair.
Meets will always happen. They will always start small with a group of like minded people, others will join in, the meet will evolve, it will snowball and then it will normally just implode under the weight of its own success. Even very well established venues and events are suffering from this, take Ace Café as a prime example.
All we can do is accept that this is part and parcel of meets and shows now and do our best to be awesome to one another and enjoy ourselves without allowing foolish shenanigans to get out of hand. Respect the organisers and the venue, and if you must fanny about then make your own meet elsewhere for doing just that rather than spoiling an event that more people than you are enjoying. If you must mess around just remember you're the minority and nobody is impressed and in the vast majority of cases, nobody likes you either.

I think the best thing to do if you are a organiser is once to many bellends start coming you find a new venue and tell a select few about that meet . Then you should have a good run at another venue until you need to move again .

Well i do not suppose you can do anything then apart from try it , or start telling people via facebook that they are unwelcome , and then get made to look like a pendantic so and so .
You just cant win .
Maybe softly softly facebook approach ' the red escort doing wheelspins is not welcome again' etc ?

Bike was speeding doing a wheely so could not stop or see the car , the car did not indicate and should have turned very slowly to show his intentions with the amount of stupid traffic about .
There is a shocking video on youtube under ' ace cafe crash ' about the 6th down something to do with a HGV [ truck ] trying to get through there - you can count about 12 dangerous actions in less than 1 minutes .
I really do not know how that place is still open with idiots like that .

The ACE cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of dipshits on the public highway, otherwise motorway services could be held liable for people speeding on the motorway. There seems to be a lot of people with money to burn, a few donuts soon eats a tyre and bike tyres arnt cheap. Sad fact is, anywhere there's an audience there will be clowns desperate to put on a show to make up for their insignificance. Ttfn Glenn

I'm not saying its responsible of course its not thats fairly obvious . But the fact is if the cafe was not there people would not be meeting there to be idiots . They really need to get the police down there but then again if its not on there property and they are making money - all good till they get told to shut down .
