Righty! I've been meaning to get this thread started for nearly a year, so there's no time like the old present... I bought the car at the end of last year from a chap in Huddersfield who restores these for a living. This one, I found almost by accident, was hiding under a tarp at the back of his yard and had been used as a spares car for a number of his projects. He'd bought it because it had a pristine interior, which he used for another car, leaving it in the state you find it here. Hardly worthless, indeed, despite this I managed to get the car for peanuts. That was last year.. you can see I've done nothing with it, so today I decided to give it a wash & cut the bonnet, until' I ran out of cutting compound. The paint was in pretty bad condition, despite this it really only took minimal effort to get back to colour. Came out alright!

I believe it can be pretty prodigious on these beautys Body-wise, I think I'll be spared any hugely disruptive rot-treatment jobs. It looks as though someone had been through the car at some earlier time. There's clear evidence of patchwork underneath, on the sills, rear arches etc.. The drivers floor could do with replacing, maybe some inner sill tidying.. No doubt there will be more as I get stuck into it.

Yeah, that's one nice car, you gotta love that v12 howl. It's a lovelly motor alright, but this build won't be going down the restoration route...
Oh no!.... (evil laugh....)

There a chap around the corner from me who's starting to build a Broadspeed XJ12C replica, abs I think he'll be stripping the interior. I can ask him what he's doing with it if you like? There's also the original engine and gearbox looking for a home if you know anyone looking

I see what you mean about the interior, or lack of it! Hopefully you'll get one sorted.

No need for an interior.. The reason this car suits my needs so well is that I'd be stripping out most of the parts that the car is missing in the first place. The fact that it's incomplete & was deemed worth very little came as a massive stroke of luck to me.
The car will eventually have something resembling a comfortable race interior. 2-seats (buckets), rollcage but still have carpets.
The engine & auto-box are going.. I have something a little special in mind.. hee-heeee!!
I was toying with fitting a Broadspeed kit myself, It's awsome looking, for sure! But.. I decided against this as it's maybe a little bit too track-focused for the look I'm after. I'll probably opt for some custom steel arch extensions when I absolutely need 12" wide rubber on all 4-corners. That won't be for a little while, so I'll leave the body stock for now.

...tired of not having a seat, I decided to "steal" one of my old bucket seats destined for my Jeep build. I reckon I'll not need it for a few months, so, the Jag has won. It's a ropey installation, but good enough so I can get the thing moving once the engine is running. I'll eventually buy some race-retro buckets & have them properly installed when I get to having the rollcage fitted, this'll have to do for now. Well....it's functional...

The car won't be running either of the fuel tanks hiding underneath the rear wheel-arches, instead I'm going to fit a fuel-cell in the boot. I picked up a nearly new JAZ 8-gallon cell from thEbay for good money. I would've liked a 12 gallon one, but, beggars & all that... The Jag' has a silly-complicated arrangement of twin-tank-senders-pumps-pipes & associated gubbins.. some of which is missing from mine.. so, the whole lot's coming out & I'm starting a'fresh. So, unpicking the bodywork to see what's lurking under the tank cover panels, I got to work removing both tanks. I was really surprised to find that not a single fastener during the entire dis-assembly process needed even a slightly harsh word uttered to get it moved. Underneath, the panels all seem pretty good shape, just a bit of surface rust here-&-there. One thing which slightly annoyed me was someone had sawn off the N/S exhaust back box, right next to where the rear section joins. Despite the centre section being in great condition.... Ggggrr!! Whyd'ya saw it there?... FFS! Rear end, looking not too shabby underneath. The Cell, as one day it might look... Got some fabb'in to do before that's finished....

Indeed!.... It's an LQ4. Found in GM trucks, based on gen-3 architecture (LS to most) , this one's a 6.0L but won't be remaining for long. The beauty of the iron block variant is the ability to throw high boost at them all day & they don't grumble. But, that's for much later...

Before I disappear into the shed, to spend most the day preppin' the engine block for paint, I thought I'd just share some pictures of the Jag's new wheels. They're genuine old stock BBS alloys for an XJ-R, mis 90's (I'd guess), they weigh naff-all so should do good things for unsprung mass. I got tyres fitted to two of them, at 245 50 18, thought I'd get certain that the same tyre'll fit under all four corners of the car. As it turns out, I might get away with it, maybe just a wee bit of arch rolling needed for clearance at the rear. I think the wheels look pretty good on her. Running a bit tall, especially at the front, but I'll fix that when my GAZ coilovers & eibach springs arrive.
