Just came across this when it popped up in my Twitter feed The TrackrThere's an interesting video where they use it to recover a stolen bike I think I'll be investigating further, although I can't help but feel that I'm missing something obvious...

Ah, I've found the flaws. - You need the app running in the background all the time.
- You need Bluetooth on all the time.
- It doesn't use true GPS, but relies on other users being in proximity.
I think a regular SIM-based tracker will be a better option.

Better idea for a bike would be a spike hidden in the seat stem that you could activate remotely if bike stolen and shown to be in motion Obviously it'd ruin the seat but at least thief wouldn't be able to ride it further (or do anything else for a while !)

Whilst I like the sound of this and being a Cannondale SL1 29er mtb owner I can REALLY relate to protecting my expensive bike, but I bet personal injury wombles would sue YOU for injuring their theiving client.

OK what about a DIY taser (can be made from the flash aspect of a disposable camera) mounted in the seat that could be remotely operated.
