Thanks for all the positive comments. I couldn't agree more about keeping it subtle. I've got to say I'm pretty pleased with it. I didn't get much done today as I just had a quick clean off. And general poke about. I need to get a carb repair kit first. I'll try those suggestions on the clutch thank you It's a 1725 engine. It's 1 owner from new. And done 45000 miles

Lovely! Cracking colour too! Banded steelies would really work on this, but it really looks good standard.

I've now changed my mind about this car it looks awful and i think you should sort the carb and clutch problems out and then I'll come and dispose of it for you and as its such a dreadfull looking car I'll do it free of charge?

Got the carb off and striped today. Turns out the poor running wasnt down to a knackered diaphragm. But corrosion on the needle and general sludge. Not allowing anything to move. Tomorrows job will be to have another go at the clutch

I had 74 Hunter DL 1500 in the late 90's that I bought for 350 quid. Looking back the engine was knackered, it just to shake when doing more than 65mph and it belched smoke out of the crankcase breather so bad I just plumbed in a large hose to vent the fumes under the car, otherwise it would foul up the air cleaner element very quickly. I used to get people drawing up next to me saying my car was on fire! Never had a breakdown in it though and that was the first car I learned how to change the head gasket on, just out of curiosity to see how a car engine worked.
They're an extremely rare car now though, their chassis rotted badly. Keep yours waxoiled!

Well the clutch is now free. And it's had a drive around the yard. So managed to get it up on the ramp to see the damage. And was greated a nice black underside with the occasional spot of surface rust. It might even make it to an MOT before next week

Excellant news! I'm going to try my clutch tomorrow. Engine not running yet but I can put it in gear and wedge the clutch pedal down then see if I can push it.
Might even try it tonight when I get in from work....................

That seemed to do the trick

Just tried mine. Seems to be stuck, hardly surprising after 7 years outside!
Will have to get the engine running I suppose!

Nice to see one of these that has been stored for many years actually turn out to be quite good and not a complete rot-box!

Thanks again for all the love. I really can't believe my luck with this one. It is very solid. With only the drivers side front jacking point needing some time with a welder but nothing drastic. Well was going to put it in for an MOT today. But fired it up to take down. There was a loud knock and a misfire. This was the result The cause was a stuck valve. Luckily work was quiet. So took the valve spring off. After two hours of spraying diesel on the valve and gently trying to move the valve it was free. MOT is going to have wait for now

Ouch! There were some on eBay a few days ago, hopefully still available. Speedy Spares probably have some too.
There's a nice Singer Gazelle version on eBay at the moment.
