Calling SU turbo carb experts! seal question

Hi all

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding a couple of normal SU HIF44 carbs into 'turbo spec' carbs for my supercharged MGB project as I'm planning to blow through them

I'm using metro turbo rebuild kits and have come across a small issue around the throttle spindle seals. The instructions say that these need to be put in the opposite way to how they are on N/A carbs, but mine weren't in the greatest condition so it was hard to tell which way they were when they came out!

I've got two different sizes of seal which look like they fit but I'm not sure which to use or which way they should go, can anyone shed any light on this? I've had a look online but haven't found any pics to accurately enough illustrate how they should go

First type of seal





Bit small for the boss on the carb body where the spindle goes in, if this is the correct one, which way would it go in? carb to the left or right of the seal as pictured?


Second type of seal







(Tube of glue there to help it stand up) This seal fits the boss on the carb body much better, same question again, if it is the correct seal, which way should it go in?



Any help greatly appreciated as the rebuild has been going well but this has me a bit stumped

I had the first type of seal and fitted them with the widest side going in and chamfer pointing out, the idea being that the pressure pushes out and the seal expands to seal better
