WOW. What an artist! Al, that car needs a thread all of its own. You're planning something special for the rest of the car? You tricked me too, I suspected the Scimitar, was 100% sure when I saw chrome window strip, then boom, Jaaaag.

The Jag with that beautiful detailing on the roof is an inspired choice! Is the rest of the car going to be lowrider style? Maybe even airbags?

Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it :-) @darrylw the Scimitar has been sold to a nice Italian chap and is spending its retirement by the Med! I'll start a build thread for the Jag in a day or two. It's intended to be a low budget fun daily so I doubt much else major will be done to it apart from whitewall tyres and maybe LPG. To get this thread back on track shagracer have you seen this great thread by Seth from some years ago? Seth's lace roof thread

I ninja'd you on that one four days ago, old chap! It was definitely the first thread that sprang to mind when I thought of lace paint. I reckon if you posted a few more work-in-progress photos of your roof, you might be able to take over that lofty position!

This thread is giving me naughty thoughts. The roof on the '38 has badly sun damaged lacquer and paint, so I have two choices. Repaint as is or do a metallic silver base with green metallic lace. Only the bus passengers will ever see it, but I quite fancy the idea after reading this. Like this but dark green.

I say go for it georgebIf you get some metallic down and some metal flake it'll only take a quick blast of candy green to give the effect. The candy paint is translucent so allows the metallic/flake shine through so you don't need a metallic green as such. If you mask it up carefully and maybe add a thin pinstripe and some shading on the inside edge you can get a very satisfactory result. One thing I found hard was getting enough coats of clear on to bury the metal flake before the colours went on - I stopped counting after 7 or 8!

Thanks, I used a stencil cut from cereal packet for the fish scales and fan on the sunroof and the rest was just masking tape. The candy paint gets darker the more coats that are put on so it's easy to build up the gradiation of colours in the stripes by masking most of the area to be a certain colour then peeling off random pieces between coats.

Thanks for the quick tutorial, I'll need to give it some thought. I want it to be quite subtle so that at first glance it looks the same colour as the rest of the vehicle (Epsom Green) but with a second glance evoke an "OMG, it's laced" reaction. I'm also a bit limited as to paint. I can get the right green mixed at the local 'Halfords' and buy met silver off the shelf, but getting fancy stuff (candy or large flake) is going to prove a lot harder here. Of course, the other issue is finding patterned lace...One for Madam and the Girls to track down methinks. Then there's where to do it... I just really like the idea of a large, statuesque Range Rover P38 with a laced roof!

In fact, looking at Seth's thread, that's not far off what I'm looking for in terms of colour.
