Over the last 2 years I have been building a W124 superturbodiesel. The first year was spent on the engine and transmission alone as I knew what I wanted to do, but did not have a car to put it in!
The main reason it took so long was that I only have a few hrs free each weekend. Anyway, last summer i managed to get hold of a nice 260E and yes, it was obviously a petrol auto.... After alot of mucking about i got the engine and 6 speed transmission completed and put it into the car.
This required the fitting of Custom engine mounts, exhaust system, intake, front IC, prop, g/b mounts, gear linkage, hybrid loom, E500 ARB, brackets everywhere, electric lift pump, KKD manifold, HX40 super, 8.00mm super IP, gauges, oil and PAS coolers, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate as well as welding up a hole in the floor - well it is a 124 after all. Probably missed loads of stuff from the above list.
The car has been running for a few months now and its a proper rocket, still have a few snagging issues to sort inc a lack of speedo and rev counter (i have a plan for these).
Anyway, i thought i would share some of the pictures and experiences with you. Not been on the dyno....... yet.

ZF Race enginnering/765 PP and custom flywheel. Ballanced the lot too. Works really well :-)

Shortened prop, and yes, got that ballanced too! The can has no vibration at all until you get well into three figures. Part of the remit was the car had to be family freindly.

Excellent! I think we require a video How's the power delivery? I'm wanting to turn one of my C250's into a STD. I fancy around 250bhp at the wheels but with a really smooth, gradual power delivery and not much smoke. I'm thinking 7mm elements and a tweaked OM606 turbo.

Power delievery is how ever you want it, put you foot down into to the carpet and its diesel smoke followed by tyre smoke. The great thing about these pumps is that they are easily tunable, so smoke free running is fairly easy. OM605 is easily capable of 250, but you may need a different turbo.

nasty smelly car, the previous owner did not like to take a bath.... ......however he did like a genuine MB replacement engine, what an absolute top result - the GP's literally unscrewed out with no resistance!!!!!!!!

This is bang on my sorta car! I have a 190e cosworth, just finishing the bare shell rebuild on it in the next 2 weeks. But I have so much want for a w124 with a meaty pump, turbo, and maybe an AMG kit stuck on too.
Did you use the gearbox from a w203 c220cdi? and sprinter solid flywheel conversion? open diff or asd?

I suppose I should start at the beginning for the engine – the first step on the project was buying this HX40/KKD set up from a chap called Luke. We ended up good friends. You can see from the ‘reference mug’ the thing is MASSIVE. And as it turns out effective too. I remember the conversations with my wife that went something like, 'you have bought a turbo, for an engine you don't have, to fit in a car you don't have that won't fit it in the first place? ...urmmm yes.

As these set ups are not exactly new so what i wanted to do was refine it further. Optimisation. So I have concentrated on flow and reliability. Pump, engine and turbo sorted i looked at the induction and the plenum. Needs more volume and that weedy entry hole needs sorting, so i got cutting and shaping and produced a plenum with twice the volume and a 3" inlet. All the pipe work on the inlet side is 3" and as smooth as possible with the min amount of silicone hose.
Bosses welded in for gauge take offs.
Bracket welded on for modified throttle linkage mount too.
