Hiya,
I've hopefully secured a basic iron head 1500cc 4 speed gearbox from a Hunter to be fitted on my Humber sceptre which is a top spec 1725cc engine currently running a Borg Warner type 35. Will I need the 1500 flywheel / bell housing to use this or will I need to track down 1725cc parts, since mine has the alli head / sump etc? Also what clutch am I likely to need?
Thanks for any help

According to the Rootes manual/parts books I have all flywheels and clutches are the same regardless of 1500 or 1725 except for the Rapier H120/Hunter GLS which had a larger clutch. (Actually that's not strictly true as there seems to be a slight difference in the original specification springs fitted to the driven plate for twin Stromberg carb models but practically speaking they'd all work in either 1500 or 1725 application)
Bell housing is also the identical part 1500 or 1725 but some different fasteners are used depending on whether its a steel or alloy sump.
Obviously you're going to need a pedal box and clutch hydraulics too....

Thank you! That's just what I was hoping to hear. I have the rest of the parts, its just been the gearbox itself I've been waiting to come up at the right price

As Seth says, all pretty much interchangeable and, if the box you're getting is a good one, they're bloody lovely to use as well

No idea on the prop-shaft length but a friend at work gave me a reconditioned unit left over from his basic 4 speed Sunbeam Rapier which he's had in storage since the 80's so hopefully I'm good to go. I've got two weeks off work in October so that's destruction time.
