Is there a point to this thread? *n None whatsoever, well apart from hoping that those people out there who are not sanctimonious, pious geniuses, when it comes to understanding the ins and outs of motor insurance, will now be suitably informed that some insurance companies out there treat cancellation fees as another way of ripping a hole in the a**e of their customers by charging an excessive amount to cancel. Amen. I'm feeling the love here.

I agree fully, although others wont. Paying £50 just to let them keep your money for nothing is a rip off. Ive said this before and I'll say it again. Insurance companies make up their own rules and adjust them when they see necessary, thus pulling in as much coin as humanly possible. Just sold my Misses Astra. Insurance is due end of this month. She called to say that the car is no longer hers and to cancel the policy. They said there would be a fee (yes of 50squid) and they actually told her to just let it lapse and don't renew.
The world of insurance is bullcrap. But unfortunately us down to earth law abiding citizens have to have it, or face time behind bars, picking soap up off the shower room floor.

Err why didn't you transfer the policy to the Lotus OK you'd have to pay the admin charge but you wouldn't waste all of the remaining policy, or am I missing something? The Lotus already has insurance, two different cars, two policies. Fair enough I assumed the Lotus was the replacement for the car you sold.

The only solution I can see here, is to buy a car you don't really need and swap the insurance over

Or just leave it in place until it lapses.
