Started looking for a car for the weekend i have a company van wife has a berlingo for her shop and we run a peugeot208 but its boorring!!! so i thought what can i have thats semi modern, cheap and 4 seats looking through the classics in ebay i noticed i could have a porsche for the price of a same era ford or vauxhall so started looking round at 924 and 944 found this one on preloved 16 miles from home The elderly owner died 6 yrs ago and its been sat in a garage uptill 18 months ago when it had to be moved by his son to his inlaws house where its sat in there garden since. the car wouldnt start when i went to look at it turned over with a jump but wouldnt fire, looking round it with its faded paint work and rotten sills i nearly walked away,he wanted £1000 so i took a gamble and said £700 we settled on £725 for a 2.7 89 f 944 £50 and a ride in a tranny flatbed and its home i worked out through a bit of elimination that the fuel pump was'nt working so i took it off and it was seized so £25 later second hand one fitted and the big moment arrived the pump buzzed and it started first turn, bit off a splutter at first till it warmed up them it ran fine left it tiking over till fan cut in so I'm well happy, tried a bit off t cut on the wing and bonnet as well came up not bad but think a full paint job next year once ive got the sills and scabs sorted. next on the list are some new sills and a new badge panel for the front which got dinted when it was pushed in the past also free off the binding brakes and a service

I would love one of these but I have struggled to find one that fits the bill.
Look forward to seeing how it progresses.

Outer sills start showing scabs well after the inner sills have already crumbled. Also check where the rear sub frame joins the chassis in front of the rear wheels. The other big job will be belts and water pump plus a number of other snags no doubt. Keep faith and read up on here www.clarks-garage.com. Good luck

Will need belts, idlers & probably a waterpump ASAP. These are 3-4 years or 45K miles. Wander over to www.tipec.net plenty of 944 gurus there.

handbrakes are a challenge. Mine was always flaky, roughening the shoes, cleaning everything up makes a big difference. Be warned some bits on the 2.7 are unique to that engine, water pump & valves are just two.

Good price for a 2.7 and looks fairly solid. Like folk have been saying the 2.7 will have quite a bit of engine specific parts. If you are ever struggling to find parts try phoning Porsche. They will always get you the correct part and they are usually just as cheap as online. I've used them for seal kits and loads of little screws and o-rings Plus you can use Porsche PET for all the diagrams. I'll be watching this for ideas for mine!

What a bargain purchase. Even if it wasn't worth repairing, you could break it and get your money back easily. (Not that I'm saying break it). It's good to see another one saved. For some inspiration check out this Retro Rides thread... retrorides.proboards.com/thread/154327/love-poor-mans-porsche Also note that most Turbo/S2 parts aren't the same as the N/A models, so those lovely light pods that you posted up above will not fit yours without changing the wings, badge panel and front bumper first.
