The New VIC Process, anyone have any experience?

I have found myself looking into the possibility of repairing a Cat c vehicle, its currently on as a Cat C marker.

Talking to the salvage company they informed me that the VIC check has been abolished, so with that in mind does any one have any experience with the new process?

It sounds as though it is better for us who want to go through the VIC process, for those who are not in the know, it would appear that we no longer need to pay £40 and take time off of work for a VIC check. Now we just submit a form for a new V5, which from my research shows is free in this instance, and wait for one to be returned. It seems the change has been brought around after only 40 "ringer" being found amunt 190,000 test candidates.

Now with the above in mind I have the following to ask.

I am looking at a new van which has been accident damaged and deemed a Cat C, I have not yet viewed the vehicle, but from extensive photos requested and forwarded over it appears to be a Bolt on panel job, the vehicle being in an ever popular colour also keeps costs minimal which is a bonus.

Now with the vehicle being a Cat C, I will repair the damage and then file the subsequent form and apply for the V5, now this is where my question comes from.

Do I have to wait for the V5 to come back before I can submit the van for an MOT? If so would I be able to repair the damage, send the V5 application off, take it for an MOT and use the vehicle until the V5 arrives?

Any help or suggestions would be excellent.

Basically repair the vehicle mot it then you aplly for a v5 when you tax at a post office it is then all legal and in a couple of weeks the v5 will come back in your name

vans never needed a vic check anyway repaired a few smashed cat c vans for my bro and just sent off for the log books

Yes as above, vans were excluded from vic check. If my memory is correct when I had to vic my car I had it mot'ed before the vic. I know the vic is abolished, but a car is either mot'ed or not mot'ed regardless if the v5 is present or not. Have you checked that there is not currently any MOT on it already?

interesting one this, my pug was put in cat c by my insurance company over 3 years ago, I retained the car and v5 in my name, under the old scheme they wanted a vic if I wanted a new v5, I still have the old one so don't need a vic, though annoyingly I couldn't do a sorn or tax the car online at all, no reminders were sent for either.

not a big problem as I had a local post office that taxed cars, it passed the mot in that year just fine after replacing an indicator and pulling the wing away from the tyre.

as it happens it has been sat in a garage for two years since, and I had not changed address either, soon though both those will change, itll be going for work and be ready to use next year, and I am moving out in a few weeks so my registered adress will need to be changed.

under the old scheme I needed a vic before they would give me a new v5 for any reason, will I now be able to apply for change of address without a vic? and also tax it online again? (well, sorn the poor thing initially!)
