Background:
The mechanic next door has been doing some work on the Granada. It was almost finished when I spoke to him yesterday morning, with just a little left to do. I think, but can't prove, that he's doing it cash-in-hand after hours and not telling his boss. For a long time, I thought he was the owner but this is not actually the case.
The car was parked on the street at about 9pm last night, but is nowhere to be seen this morning. The lights were on in the garage until quite late, which led to me to believe that he was working on it. Now, it could be that it's still in the garage, which they wouldn't normally do, but there's no-one there today, it's locked up, and the mobile number on their sign is going to voicemail and the mailbox is full. I've sent them a couple of texts asking if it was there when they locked up last night.
So:
Do I call the police and report the car as possibly stolen? Or do I leave it and hope that it is in the garage, which I might not find out until tomorrow morning?
On the one hand, if it's been stolen then the quicker I report it the better, but if I report it and it isn't stolen, they won't be too chuffed.
Thoughts?
