That looks the mutt's nuts - hats off to you for all the great work that's gone into this. I keep telling my colleague in the US to buy this (hi Jamie if you're reading this) but he keeps coming up with reasonable excuses! So, what's next? Please tell me you're going to make a time machine out of a De Lorean?

That looks seriously cool. I'm glad you took in the advice on here, it has just the right level of patina and discretion yet a few hints as to what's hiding underneath. Well played sir, well f***ing played

I will just sit here and bask in the reflected glory of White Walls..... Still basking...... Yup...... But longer....... Still not quite there...... And....... Relax....... For me, the steelies and White Walls seal the deal. Would be seriously tempted by this all but for the fact that getting it registered here would potentially be nigh on impossible. One of my favourite builds on RR, going to miss it. But!! Well played Sir. You should be proud. P.

Paul, you are right, being a 2004 model on the papers may count against it for some buyers, others will be happy to tax and instead it as a modern. I wonder what the DVLA would make of it. Could you quietly register it as a 1953 or would it be headed for SVA ? Did I mention it has come together perfectly? Well done Grenade !!

Gotta say that if I thought there was any chance at all of a) getting it past customs and b) getting it registered, it'd be in a container as I write. It would be a real mind blower here!
Sadly I fear it would be twenty years older and I would most likely be dead before it ever appeared, blinking in the sunlight, out of the docks.

Great build, entertaining posts, bloody great truck. One of the reasons I love RR is this thread. I check in every evening to see updates. While I totally understand you moving to the next project, I'm kinda sad when you sell the existing one - just like the biturbo Lexus one! Well done grenade on a great build and keeping the RetroRides massive so entertained with your skills. We sir, salute your efforts. CFD

THANKS RR for being so supportive. Some days, the long hours and long nights on the truck, were fueled by the thought of "Just wait until the guys on the boards see this". Super cool, really- thanks for posting and being nice. The ebay auction listing? I started it fairly high, but hey- you never know. Honestly, I want 12,500 USD for it. I had two guys (that if they could have gotten all the money together, would have paid me the same day they saw it) One of them gave me a deposit on 12.5 but later backed out because he couldn't get all the money. I'm confident it will sell real close to that number. If it drags on for a couple weeks and nobody bites on it, I'll drop the price, but something tells me I won't have to. www.ebay.com/itm/291749723917?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649As far as the registration/ownership papers are concerned, it's a 2004 because the frame and engine along with the ECU, all bear that VIN number, so it's simple to just transfer it around between people in the states. Getting the 1953 registration, requires all sorts of red tape that can in fact be done, but takes weeks. I might do it, but probably not. Over there, in the UK- the DVLA, from what I've been reading on the GOV.UK site would basically just check it for safety and honestly, I can't see any problems aside from the cracked glass and no seatbelts. I can add lap style seatbelts in about a half hour. Based on what I've seen, read and heard, an MOT would have maybe a couple small advisories but nothing that would cause it to fail. I'm not sure, they might get it registered easier over there than we think. If I were independently wealthy, I would just ship it to my buddy over there and let him sort it out. I'd love to see it overseas, that would be a real testament to the truck itself. It's got all the emissions stuff on it and all the stock engine management stuff, brakes, suspension etc. It could make it on the road over there and if not- give it to Brewer and China (lol) they can get it reg'd!

Give it to Brewer and China and we can learn all about it by watching a nice doccy woccy on the beeb!!!
Perhaps not, both a pair of cockwombles who have no place in the automotive world.
The finished article is very smart indeed. I wasn't sure on the steel wheels idea, but it's actually worked out really well. As it sits it looks more vintage/original than the before pictures of the International.
£10k plus shipping seems bloody cheap, especially when you see some of the figures banded about for stuff that comes out of Gas Monkey and Welderup. Or is that all for TV?

I don't know enough about the process to make a definitive statement on this so if you are looking at bringing this fine beast back to the Blightly I would do my research. I think it might be slightly more complicated than fixing the windscreen and fitting lap belts! I am going to be watching the auction, are we going to have a little fun guessing the final sale number? P.

I have faint SVA / registrability anxiety and limited time to tackle all the practicalities solo, but it'd be the coolest thing to get this over here so if a few other Brit members here fancy a JV punt I'd be in - anyone else interested?!
Cheers

You couldn't declare it as a 1953 truck as the US Logbook wil say 2004 Dodge Durango.

It's on a separate chassis though, and that is all pretty much unmodified, so you'd probably stand a reasonable chance of registering here as the 2004 Durango and avoiding the SVA. Nick

Holy curse word!
This is seriously one of the coolest rides ever seen here on Retrorides, chapeau for this awesome build. And ofcourse thanks for sharing all of the blood, sweat and tears on this build.
Hopefully you will start another build like this, it's very enjoyable to read and follow.

Nick Agreed, if you can demonstrate compliance with the 8-point Radical Altered Vehicle rules, there shouldn't be an issue registering it without an IVA test, however you may need to register it under a unique name, as you would with other body-swapped vehicles.

Penguin Poop Pickup? How confident are you that it'd get registered without undue heartache? I have literally zero experience with the new rules - but seeing the hoops other souls here have had to jump through I wouldn't be keen to have to get it SVA compliant I have to say The other option of course is to emigrate to the USA!

Was the Durango sold anywhere in Europe? If so I would have thought you'd get away without a BIVA under the 8 points rule. If not I would have thought a BIVA would be necessary as the base vehicle does not have EU type approval.

If not I would have thought a BIVA would be necessary as the base vehicle does not have EU type approval. The base vehicle is irrelevant, IVA doesn't applyy to imported vehicles over 10 years old, and even under that age there is a clause that recognises certain countries Type Approval outside of the EU, Japan and the US being just two examples, which is why you can import a brand new Challenger and register is without the need for Type Approval Testing. As long as you can demonstrate compliance with 8-points, you should be golden.
