Say hello to my new purchase ha. 1988 mk2 Fiesta L 1.1l Bought as a new daily while my chevettes off the road for the winter - thread here retrorides.proboards.com/thread/184303/retro-student-budget-vauxhall-chevette48k on the clock and pretty solid overall. Only cost me £600 to insure aswell ( 1years no claim at 18yrs). Which is a lot lower than some so very pleased. The day I bought it.

I've only owned it for a week so I've only really found the time to wash it and give it a good service. (Oil, plugs, leads, dissy cap, rotor) , coolant and give it a general bit of tlc. Also collected these for £100 . with good tires allround. Half way through refurbing them as we speak.

Busy weekend.. It's probably had it's first polish in 10 years, wheels are now on. - it looks and drives a lot better! Horn was dud, so upgraded to a 150db air horn because why not?! Going to repaint the trim panels and bumpers next week and finish off lowering it as I only had enough time to do the rear yesterday. No pictures of this yet, but the rear Has been lowered using springs from my old mk5 zetec s.

Lowered on pots is a great way to go with these in my opinion, keep us updated. I really like the retro side stripes too.

This is going to look great. Great price for insurance too, I think I was paying more than that for an '88 Fiesta in the late 90s!

Thanks, I've seen quite a few with pots so painted them ford titanium grey to be a bit different. Very pleased with how the paint turned out after the polish. Before and after a clean...

Ignore the jack - this was the stock ride height at the rear. And after... Bumpers temporarily off whilst I respray it. Although I'm tempted to keep it bumperless - opinions?

Personally I think they look loads better WITH bumpers. A popular thing to do is replace the later bumper centre section (coloured with plastic inserts) for an earlier one which was black and solid metal with no inserts. You can achieve the same look byt removing the plastic inserts and welding up the holes, then respraying the bumper black.

Time for an update, Bumper removed Nasty The sanding began... I soon realised i wasn't going to have enough black paint to do the whole bumper so used the proper ivory paint. And the finished result!

Getting sick of seeing that red oxide paint by the arch so tidied it up the best i could temporarily until i get the welder on it! Also finished off lowering the front. That pretty much summarises this weekends work. Getting there... little by little.
