Following on from RRG I have a few things to address on the Sprint.
I was actually really really happy with how it went all weekend. 6 hours in traffic and heat on the way there, 4 hard runs up the hill and then 3 1/2hrs back cruising at a solid 90mph all the way. No overheating, breakdowns or anything falling off, so not bad at all for a 42 year old car with a reputation for unreliability!
However there are a couple of things that came to light that will need attention. It's sometimes difficult to engage gears at a standstill or when crawling in traffic, they seem to engage ok but then start grinding when coming off the clutch. I suspect the clutch is not clearing properly and letting the gears select correctly. It was much worse when really hot. I'm going to bleed the slave cylinder first and also replace the clutch hose with a braided version in case it is flexing slightly and not allowing enough pressure on the slave cylinder.
Also on 2 out of my 4 runs up the hill, and also when pulling out onto the motorway at full beans on the way up, the car was hesitating, as if not enough fuel was getting into the carb. It may be a carb tuning issue but would expect that to happen more frequently if so. I'm going to replace the inline fuel filter first as that is cheap and easy. If not it may be that the fuel pump can't fill up the float chambers quick enough when on full throttle for long periods, so maybe will have to look into replacing the standard mechanical pump with an electric one at some point.

Very little Triumph news since the last update, as too busy buying an Alfa daily to replace the Clio daily (I must be a sucker for punishment). On that note if anyone wants a lovely little Clio 172 then give me a shout! Did have a great day out at the Bo Peep Hill Climb, getting really confident with pushing the limits of the old thing now, the tyres have improved things immeasurably. Only problem is they're so grippy I can't pull a half decent burnout anymore! Please observe my concentrating face: Need to get the car undersealed over winter, that's the next thing on the list. Then new dampers and springs, new rear suspension bushes, a couple of styling tweaks...

Hi is it a Trackerjack conversion, look a bit like Golf disc. Absolutely is, good spotting! Sierra calipers are on the way soon. Heard nothing but good things about it, and for the price it seems to be a no-brainer.

Ordered a set of Gaz fully adjustable shocks and new springs this week. Should allow me to not only shrink the arch-gap slightly but also to fine tune the damping, as the current shocks are very soft. Also won these on eBay today, although different from my Comps I'm hoping to get them refurbed in the same colour and to use them as the fronts, as I want to try some deeper lip rather than the flat faces I have at the moment. It's a pain in the bumhole trying to find wheels in this PCD, but the upside is when they come up they are filthy cheap as no one else wants them!

Sprint is back after an 8 hour round trip to collect it and now partially disassembled for it's upgrades.
So far due to some pretty rubbish weekend weather I've only managed to get the front shocks off and top mounts swapped over.
Unfortunately the starter motor has now died so that is probably more urgent that most items on my list, although so far getting to it has been unsuccessful, will have another go this weekend.
Also had a nice drive up to Norfolk to collect some more Compomotives off a another RR member, they are exactly what I've been waiting for so now my front wheels will match my rears.

Thanks for the replies guys. Turns out the centre caps actually fitted the rears ok, I only tried the front... Got 2 for the front coming from Compomotive, spoke to a really helpful guy called Barry there. Score 1 for a proper British company looking after 40 year old wheels. In other news, found this photo on an old resto thread on the Dolomite forum Taken in the 70's, when one of the previous owners used it for hill climbing in Scotland. Actually the coolest photo ever (well to me anyway!). Would love to know where it was taken, apparently around Stirling somewhere, so if anyone has experience of 40 year old Scottish hill climbing and can work out where it was taken please let me know! Hi mate, it's probably taken at Doune, there is / was hill climbing there for years. cheers kev

Just read the whole thread from start to finish. Lovely car with some great upgrades. All I can say is you must have a very understanding Wife to allow continuous tinkering and spending! Lol.

A successful Sunday morning, and I remembered to take at least a few photos! Starter motor battled and defeated, now to get a new one. New shocks fitted. Comparison between old and new. Alot more adjustment, damping adjustment that isn't siezed, and they look sexy. And finally, offered up a different front spoiler, needs some trimming but should add to the overall look.

Yay! Another productive weekend by my standards! Got the recon starter fitted last weekend, thought I'd do a proper job and clean up all the connections however as I was cleaning up the ignition wire it fell to bits in my hand So this weekend repaired that wire and got the starter all bolted up properly. And it started! Then set up the adjustments on the new front shocks and springs, set them up to about 1 inch lower than it was before. Finally bolted my new front wheels on. 1/2 inch wider than the ones I had last year and therefore have the nice dish to them to match the rears. Had them refurbed by Wheel Works in Crawley, who have done a great job on all the old wheels I've fitted to this. After this success I had a massive pleasure of actually driving it out on a sunny afternoon which reminded me how much fun this car is. New shocks feel great with the damping set midway between soft and hard and the ride height seems to have settled in at a perfect height (slightly lower than the photo below as this was pre-drive). Can't really go much lower as the subframe would spend alot of time kissing tarmac and I've been there with the MX5 which taught me really can't be bothered with worrying about what roads I can use it on. Finally as it was raining all day today I've made some further progress with trimming my new front splitter. Offering it up it now looks like it'll fit flush but I'll have to wait a couple of weeks before bolting it on as I wasn't going to roll around in a puddle to do it today!

Yay more Dolly time and more progress, I'm 90% finished with my planned upgrades/repairs now, unless anything else breaks of course! Spent 7 hours on it yesterday to tick a few items off the list. Went into to work and used the ramp, this made it so much easier and I'm really glad I didn't attempt this stuff on the drive as it would have been a nightmare. Also the aid of a few of the guys at work really helped, probably would still be there now otherwise! First of all was to replace the rear shocks and springs with my new Gaz ones. Ride height is about half an inch lower, can't go any further as the rear wheels rub on the arches. I've stiffened the rear dampers up to help prevent this too. The photo is pre-drive so will hopefully settle down a tad. While it was on the ramp I treated it to an oil change with Castrols finest gloopy 20w/50. Next stop was to change the clutch hose, as I hope this was causing an issue selecting first and reverse when hot. This was a pain in the rear, as there is not alot of space around the slave cylinder. Trying to tighten some unions that were covered in fluid when you can only get 1/10th of a turn at a time was very frustrating. These are notorious for being difficult to bleed as the nipple is lower than the top of the slave cylinder. Solution was to raise the car on the ramp on the rear only, giving it a nice 45 degree angle. Looked sketchy as hell but worked a treat! Pity I didn't get any photos of this but I was more worried about a car dropping on my head Repairs complete it was time to add a couple of finishing touches that I've been waiting to do. First of was fitting my front spoiler, £25 of ebay Mk1 Golf GTI plastic. A bit of trimming is still to be done, but I'm very happy with the result. Adds a bit of race car/J-ness to it in my opinion and also means it's a little different from other Sprints (especially as the Sprint front spoiler is added to many Dollys/Tollys). Also added a Speedhunters sticker to the rear window, not a massive fan of too many stickers on cars so this will be it along with my RR and Restoshack one. My final jobs was to fit a NRG slimline quick release boss. This about as good as security as I could think off, if someone wants to steal it without a steering wheel attached then they obviously want it more than me! Really happy with the look, quality and general fit of this, worth the premium over some unknown ebay curse word I reckon. Unfortunately time was too tight to actually go for a proper drive! This will have to wait for a week or two, but it did feel great on the way home. Last few things left to do: Sort out a few interior trim annoyances. Fit the upgraded front brakes. Get a louder exhaust. Oh and maybe get out and use it as much as damn possible. Already booked in for Bicester Sunday Scramble in April, Players Classic and Retro Show in June (somehow I've got myself in the show and shine for Players ) and then roadtrip to Scotland in July, Nurburgring Classic in August and of course RRG. It's going to be a busy year!

You may want to turn your front shocks through 180 degrees if you intend to adjust the damping much, guess how I know... Also, NRG boss is on my want list too. But I always felt that it'd bring the wheel too close to me and further from the stalks.
