Thought i'd share the family fleet with you all as i just finished the Ex's car on the 23rd and we once again have a fleet (if 3 counts as a fleet? ) Ex wifes Too low for me but it looks nice, right royal PITA round n Londons frankly cr@p roads with added speed humps Boggo 1.6 LX, lowerd 60mm (was suposed to 40mm but ebay can be hit and miss with the ability of sellers to use a tape measure) 6X15 RS 7spokes, some new parts, mix well then tell her it's her Bday and crimbo present. Give her that back and then my car back i'd lent her a few months ago when hers failed the MOT, i swapped this for my Mk5 cortina as i've moved on in life and cars. Needs some paint and the twin tail pipes need a polish it's a 1.8TD with Si spec, that included the Int, suspension, brakes and body kit, oh and the twin Si tail pipes When i've sorted the paint and lowerd it a (WEE) bit i have to fit a foglamp bumper and ST rear spoiler to the youngest sons festa, his names Ford and thank fook he owns a ford (TBH i got given it so did it up and gave it too him just to make sure!) Needs to keep up with mumsie on the mod front after all I only had the mondeo 2 days before i llent to to the Ex so now i have it back i'll get some pics if anyones interested ?

For subtle read cheap lol How we got the escort, 2 owners, 1st a Ford dealership and then a disabled lady, 56K on the clock It's just about to hit 70K so this year it had a new cam belt and water pump, zorst, TCAs and pads/discs. Gaffa tape included lol (now all gone) looks naked without it and it only took me 3 years to repair the bumper, it gained a rear spoiler for of her birthday one year and the wheels another, lowering kit yet another birthday, having a car family is so much easyer than frikken shoe shopping or trying to be imaginative at crimbo or birthdays Simple, cheap and err cheap Ford fiesta as i got given it (non runner) it had been into fords and they said it needed a new engine so lady owner gave it to me via a friend on BSC (cheers Gary, still owe ya one ) funny enough also on 56K when i got it, i A framed it back from watford to Enfield with the trusty P100, (i did give the lovely lady a rather nice bottle of red wine as she wouldn't take any money for it) and had it in for the MOT the next day So did it need a new engine as the dealers said? no! it needed new plugs and leads, water was leaking under the screen washers and had filled the plug vally with dirty water, literaly £30 and 10p worth of silicon sealant and it flew through the MOT. He's only been driving 5 months so all it's had is 15" focus alloys that we satin blacked (he's after my Si wheels now little fooker) and some light tints For crimbo he got a foglamp Fr bumper and ST rear spoiler i got through contacts (as you do) so next month they are going on and Fr F/L fitting, his mum got him the fog lamps, i got the bumper and spoiler, nan got him basecoat and stabiliser, sister got the laquer and thinners, crimbo is so easy once they start driving I'll stick to the scort and mondy for updates as the festa is way too new for here IMHO.

I don't take a lot does it to really change a cars appearance, sometimes the less the better I do like an estate, i used to run a cortina estate as a daily, even ran scrap in in it now i use the P100 which was my modern till it got old (like me) now it's a classic so i had to get a more modern modern (if you can follow that? ), not that my modern is that modern but L reg is new to me I do like the gold wheels with that colour, they contrast lovely and the polished lip sets them off just enough I have this "thing" about factory parts, the Ex called it anal,, i agree she wanted TSW stealths on the scort, the RS alloys are close enough (at least that's what i told her), other than that i fitted a ford double din CD player/radio in place of the tape/radio, a relay for the rear wiper so it's intermitant rather than just on all the time, int light from a ghia and a delay relay, also fitted a pair of small relays so the hazzards flash when deadlocking it. Unfortunatly Ford has the same problem as me with factory parts, he spends ages looking for parts that swap accross from other modles, when i bought a ford Fusion the other week for £30 he was straight down listing parts he wanted looks like i'm breaking it then . The mondeo i've still to really put any miles on but i love the Si big wing seats! even my fat fits in there! just need to swap in some facelift bits and bobs on the int to make it "mine", in the "to fit" box are Ghia illuminated sun visors and rear int lamp, working Fr fogs and Mk2/3 bonnet lifter gas rams, 2nd boot lamp and Ghia lights in the inner door relase handle surrounds (i can be a tart, something else the Ex got right about me)

Ive got a soft spot for the Mk1 Mondeos, it looks in good shape. It sounds like you treat your ex partner pretty well, doing all the work for her.

Not really had to do a lot TBH but i did manage to snap the timming belt on the mondy yes yes i know dipshit soon sorted with a belt kit and it's all back fine, fortunatly it was at tick over when it went While i was in there i fitted a powder coated cam cover i was going to use on the P100 Did the rust pits in the bay, fortunatly there was only a few to deal with Fitted a new battery and painted the clamp Painted the beige parcle shelf black so it doesn't clash so bad with the grey interior that is mid paint not the finished artical same with the illuminated sun visors except painted them grey instead of black as the plastic primer was a pretty close match to the origional int, so plastic primer and laquer later, job jobbed.

Next up to sort the holding back issue and occasional rough idle along with white smoke from the tailpipes, changed the aged and toothles old, err filter To a new mahle filter removed and cleaned the timing advance solenoid Sorted all the issues i was having, now it pulls from well under the 2500 rpm it needed before hand, spins up quicker and is way WAY better off the line and no rough idle and smoke, woo hoo pluss its picked up a few MPG round town as well (which is nice). to celebrate i gave it a hoover And fitted a new window switch without fingernail wear holes in it That's all for now, it passed the MOT without an issue, emmisions were nice and low and no soot or oke of any kind, mind you i did clean the I/C whilst it was off to check the EGR, which is still connected and the inlet is about the cleanest i've ever seen on a modern(ish) TD, a lite coating of soot and no oil residue, bonus Just after the MOT it passed a small milestone Ok it's not huge millage and no where near the 189K on my 106 but it's getting there and amazinly runs great even the EGR !! it'll get an easy life as it's now the family disabled transport, keeps it exempt from the emmissions zones which is a nice bonus for when they get stricter, so it' will be twice a week to the hospital/doctors and once a month run to Swansea and back to clean the pipes so to speak

A few more pics of under the bonnet, noticed the mod ? No ? lol sierra dipstick (for the oil not the driver), why? cos it says turbo on it i figured as the waterpump has the word turbo cast into it why not make a matching dipstick, that and i'm a tart This mod was probably the best mod yet, Mk3 fanspray washer jets and a pair Bosch Retrofit Flat Wiper Blades (aero), the fan jet is a little low on the screen but the fan reaches far enough up to clean the screen AND use less washer fluid at the same time so win win, to compliment this pairing i splashed out on some prestone washer fluid, not the cheapest but it really works well and prevents algee in the bottle even at lower concentrations which meens i no longer need to use a needle and clean the dam washer jets out once a week! Next up is a more powerfull washer pump, i need to do some tests on the ones i have and see which is the most powerfull, or in other words what one spurts the water the thurthest And that the mondy up to date, fiesta update in a few days cos me and the boy have been playing with that a bit

Some oompf below 2500rpm is a good achievement, i think i may have to try and copy your work when it comes to servicing mine.

It drove Ok (ish) just a bit flat under 2500, the new filter sorted that, the pump was struggling to suck through the blocked filter, the turbo is less noticable now as there's less lag so it sort of smoothly comes in instead of holding back and rushing in in a lump, actually makes it feel slower LOL. All the timming advance did was cure the occasional misfire on idle, where it would just miss a bit and smoke, smoke was white and unburnt fuel, on these later mechanical/ECU systems with an AFM and TPS the ECU controls the EGR and the low load timining advance solenoid, there are so many differant styles of conrtrol systems on the 1.8 it makes your head hurt! even the factory manual shows escort engine parts NOT mondeo and unfortunatly the haynes manual is a direct copy of that, mistakes an all !! look in the manual how to do a cambelt change it says remove the alt from the front of the engine to get the timing pin in but the alt is at the back on the mondeo (front on the escort) Also i also had a vacume leak from the idle up solenoid under the battery (ups the idle in reverse), so i blocked the vac feed to that and i will change that actuator when i find another, the vac leak wasn't noticable excpet the idle didn't raise when i selected reverse but the leak was stopping the EGR vac solenoid from opening the EGR fully and that sometimes made the engine back off on the motorway, cured that now by removing the vac leak, funny really cos i cant say i noticed any power isuues untill i got rid of them !
