I'm thinking of selling this as i still haven't done any more to it. please try and talk me out of it. My problem is i don't have a great deal of spare time to work on it so can never make a good start on something. i love my cars and really want something i can use, enjoy and work on. not just have sat there doing nothing i tentatively put it on Facebook earlier in the week and had lots of interest but its full of messers with no intention of following up on what they say. so at the minute i'm in two minds as to continue with her in the hope i will find the time to get it sorted or try and sell/swap for something usable.

To be honest? Keep it. Noone else would commit to that. They would part it out and bin the shell. If you don't feel like working on it at the moment, store it and put it out if the mood is back into it.
This is the first XR2i you bought after having dreamt about it since your childhood. Don't give up on it.

I really just need to push myself into it. Shouldn't take loads to get it on the road. It'll always be as rough as a badgers bum anyway. A car doesn't need showroom quality to appeal. My two current cars are 90's Toyota non-metallic red. The paint looks like curse word if you look closely but the feel I get from them isn't affected at all. They run and drive perfectly though so this makes me live with the cosmetic issues. The Celica will be painted when she gets 30 years old (and her historic license plates) in four years and the Corolla has his battle scars from the previous owner and he wears them with pride.

Well I had a word with myself and managed to make a start this evening. I asked my dad to bring his foot pump round when dropping my young one off. As I don't have one and the front drivers tyre was completely flat. This allowed me to get it up high enough for the jack to slide under. Then in a few stages I managed to get the back up suitably high enough. Found the locking wheel but and got the wheel off. Nicely spaced out. Should have done the bearings a world of good. My aim was to get the arch trim off in one piece to assess the extent of the rust. I managed it but boy did it put up a fight. I think the welder will be getting quite happy The sill has split where it was plated previously So I guess I'll be using the whole of the full sill I bought 👍🏻 All in all. Pretty much what I'd expected. I decided to let the handbrake off as It had been on for about 8 months. The wheels turned freely to my surprise must be a good omen. I think I may have a whole free Sunday coming up so I hope I can get a few panels so I can cut out the rot and start welding in some new metal.

Plenty of grot but looks savable!
Motivation is tough, my advice is to start one area and see it through to completion rather than half doing lots of areas. Much better for the motivation to see and know certain bits are done already!

When ive done a car like this in the past i do everything that i HAVE to do do first but just enough that it can be MOT'd and then put on the road, that way i have a definate point to aim for and the satisfaction of reaching a significant milestone. It doesnt matter what it looks like then as long as its safe, legal and properly done. A lot of my cars have been left at this stage because i love seeing peoples faces when a "bit of old tat" takes them at the lights or out corners them, so carry on as you are and look at it that every tiny thing you do is a step nearer to the MOT and the road or break it, keep the best bits and buy another thats nearer to being done but needs the bits you have. Great project though.

Same here, no time for toys. Lower your standards and set a small goal each time you touch it. It'll be worth it in the long run.

Right then update time. So after my last post I decided that I really couldn't tackle the work required to fix this heap. So I put it up for sale. Got a buyer who wanted me to hold on until the new year with the promise of paying over the odds so I duly obliged after taking a small deposit. Two months later they contact me saying they no longer want it! Hey ho no big deal I got a coupe of quid for it sitting on my drive for a few months. But after thinking do I really want to get rid I started scouring the classifieds and Facebook. After a few days this little number popped up. I'm picking her up tomorrow getting the train after work and heading straight to collect. I will only have a 165 mile journey home what's the worst that can happen 😳 But it's a very good base for helping my little xr2i to survive a while longer. It will need a little welding for the next MOT next summer but. Itching like what the joker needs. So I'll be slowly reshelling my xr2i eventually replacing the 1.1 four speed with manual choke for the CVH Can't wait. I'll update with progress tomorrow.
