Just refurbished a set of wheels and they look really nice. One wheel reacted for some reason so I blasted it back to bare metal and repainted it all. Pain but no biggie.
Well when I was getting tyres fitted the neep in the workshop managed to dunt a tyre on the wheel and smeared a bit of the lacquer. I don't want water getting underneath but at the same time don't want to completely repaint the wheel again. Would I be able to lacquer over the already cured lacquer? Providing I wet sand it and dry it first obviously, or would that cause a reaction?
I hate painting, please help.

It is one reason why my tyre fitter does not guarantee that painted wheels will not get damaged ; if he refurbishes wheels he only gets them powdercoated. Saying that, the faces of the Escort wheels are painted and those were OK .

Powdercoating has its cons, damage it and you can't spot repair the wheel, also some alloys don't react well to powdercoating. I remember reading about certain oe mx5 wheels cracking after being powdercoated. I don't remember the reasons behind it, but it certainly wasn't a one off.

The one big downside with powdercoating is heat. This potentially can weaken the wheels. As for repairing, I did managed to touch up one of my Speedline Turinis on my Clio. Not ideal but it did the job .
