You will have to forgive me for the brief intro to my car, but I have done a reasonable amount of work to the car so far, which I recently condensed for another forum as below: Hi! I got my 5 about a year ago, totally standard BRG v-spec, all in very good condition (except horribly flat paint!) and rot free! I slowly did a few bits and pieces as I drove it around daily for a while, the list was as follows: HSD monopros e30 BBS RZs 15x7 Federal RS-R 195/45/15 GCFab Roll bar Personal Neo Grinta wheel MX-5 Parts Stainless exhaust A corbeau seat I had laying around went in as well. At that point it looked like so: Then I got a little carried away on eBay one night and purchased a td04l, which has led me on a downward financial spiral to where I am today! Rough spec of the turbo build is as follows: TD04L turbo Blackcat fabmanifold and downpipe (soon to be one piece stainless) BMW VTPS + adaptor plate ME221 ECU eBay special intercooler and piping This is where I am currently: A few pictures from the past few weeks of me building it: Turbo mounted: Sump drilling: AC removal: IC mounting: IC mount bracket I made up: Couple of CAD bits I am awaiting 3D printing at the girlfriends house! Mock up of one of the above bits in mild steel: Fitted a ducktail: I think thats it as far as a brief overview goes! Currently it runs, awaiting funds for a wideband and EBC, ordered a 1 piece stainless downpipe with flexi and decat from Black cat fab. Just a few niggley bits to sort then and it can go for MOT and the fun can begin!

People seem to get ~180-240WHP from them with this set up depending on boost levels and a few other bits and pieces. The clutch will be the first thing to struggle though! Not looking forward to a driveway clutch change what-so-ever, although its a great time to get a nice super light flywheel! Most recently I have done a couple of little bits; Teeny tiny updates due to people not paying me and leaving me high and dry! I am having to just mess about with bits and bobs Ultra annoying as I am off work this week and with a little money the car could be nigh on road worthy! Anyway, these cars have a very flexible bulkhead and it leaves a spongey feel to the brakes- so I decided to make a stopper to keep the master cylinder nice and stationary using a nut welded onto the strut brace mount and a bolt with some rubber super-glued to the head (until I can source a nice plastic stopper of some sort anyway: Having done that sprayed it etc. and test fitted it I decided it was still to flexy!... I ground it back and beefed it up a bit. Ta-Da! Having fitted the ducktail the car looked horrendously unbalanced, always has really in my eyes! I want to get the OE splitter at some point but that £70 is far better spent elsewhere at the moment so I carved this up out of an old mk.2 golf splitter since I had one laying around. Not really keen on the look of it, and it had to be trimmed down to to the mk.2 being significantly squarer fronted... Anyway it does what it needs to for the time being. As you can probably tell, I am bored- Time off work without money is no fun at all!

It's a good way to be! with prices seemingly on the up for a nice example! I haven't actually had a go with the stopper yet! Initial pushing of the pedal does feel a little more positive though! Seems promising!

I'll echo the fact it will be quick. I have that same ECU on my MX powered GT and it's awesome.

I'd really like a second solid but tatty one to play about with and mod,but i've lost my last spare drive space to a Smart car of all things for now ! Very interested in how that brake stopper turns out in use, neat idea !

Looks like a nice little project, will be watching for updates. Thanks, hopefully will have some soon! hoping for MOT in 2 weeks! It's a good way to be! with prices seemingly on the up for a nice example! I haven't actually had a go with the stopper yet! Initial pushing of the pedal does feel a little more positive though! Seems promising! Yeah they are going up in value for the good ones so i'm reluctant to take mine away from stock. I'd really like a second solid but tatty one to play about with and mod,but i've lost my last spare drive space to a Smart car of all things for now ! Very interested in how that brake stopper turns out in use, neat idea ! It took me a really long time to persuade myself to do this to mine, its done 80k miles, was totally standard and as good as rot free... In the end I decided I got the car with the intention of building something for me, not to sit on with the hope of making money! Nothing is irreversible (although sod putting the aircon back in!) There is a part of me that really wants to get another doggy one and try and do a cheap-o home brew ITB conversion with bike carbs and things! Having had this one I've learned my lesson and would get a more shoddy basic UK spec car next time. Will keep you updated about the MC stopper as soon as its MOT'd and on the road again!

It's my dads, there are an awful lot of interesting cars about this house, I would start a thread for all of them but the lack of updates would be horrendous! A case of trying to do too many things at once and getting no where with any of them!

Keep up the good work Thanks, ordered a few bits and pieces today so hopefully a bit more progress soon! Roll bar seems good, I have never had or installed a TR lane one so can't compare, those were the only two sensible options as far as I could see! Easy enough to install and came with all the relevant certification etc. Great for the money.

Another little update today, having been snowed under with the new job and consuming a little too much alcohol last night I managed to get on the car this afternoon with a solid day planned tomorrow. I got some steel in the post the other day to solid mount my seat and get myself sat lower. All bent up and ready, gets me about 2 inches lower. In place and then drilled for the sidemounts I also ripped out the cubby and the radio, got a new center console tombstone surround and cut some black perspex to fill the gap and mount my switches and gauges. I ordered a little amp and a bluetooth adapter for the AUX output so I can still listen to some music if I ever go on a long journey. I will tuck it all up behind the dash. And tonight I can sit and make race car noises in my seat with my steering wheel snapped off.

Nice build
Don't forget to put the bolt back in where you took the Aircon bracket off or it will weep oil.
Don't suppose you fancy doing me a couple of this little light brackets for a fee?

Thanks for the heads up! Which bolt in particular? Haha! I could knock you some up for sure I will have a look at cost, very much off the top of my head I would guess at around £25 posted (assuming you want the LEDs and everything, if not I can just make you up brackets and give you a link to the LEDs). Maybe a little less, maybe a nudge more, I can't remember what the bits cost off the top of my head! Are they for a 5?

Yes for a 5,I have Tsi's and these would make a neat solution to the age old where do I put the side light question. To keep this within the rules on selling could you pm me a contact email.
In the pic where you have drilled the sump the bolthole is above it on the front face of the bloc.re use the air con bracket bolt as its a strange pitch, you will have to space it out with

Bit more update wise! Did get the seat in in the end, no pictures but oh my gosh it feels so so much better! Did require a little surgery on the seat itself to get it sat right. I have tonight made up the blank for my centre console, cut out the window switches, and gauges like so: (for some reason photobucket is refusing to rotate it!) And I also got a lovely package from Blackcat fab containing the following: So thats Sunday sorted, got to take a friend to pick up a tiger kit car on saturday, so no time for my own car!

Long time no update.. A lot has happened! Finished the turbo build and got it on the road: Changed the clutch in some horrid conditions.. Made a snazzy shifter extension for it which I haven't actually fitted: Then the big thing.. I concluded after 6 months of driving it that I didn't like the turbo! It really bloody shifts, and is a hoot but in many ways the fun of the car, and the chuckable chassis is now lost- on the road anyway! So the entire set up is now for sale minus the ECU and injectors and I the other night I impulse bought some throttle bodies off a triumph tt600 on ebay. That has led me to this: These are my initial concept before the TBs had even turned up, and when I was still planning on milling up the basic inlet. I have now adjusted many dimensions and instead bought an OEM manifold which I intend to hack up, making as stumpy as possible and get some flanges milled up and welded on- this is due to having limited mill time for things like this, and getting injector ports and posts for the fuel rail on would be a real PITA! Last night I printed some test pieces to check fit. Absolutely perfect! Since these are test pieces (not a high temp plastic and semi hollow for speed of printing) I haven't smoothed the trumpet, but with a little time and some wet and dry the inlet will be silky smooth on the final piece! Thats where this car is now!
