I'm (slowly) converting a Saab (Ford) V4 engine to K(E)-Jetronic injection. Initially I was planning on using Saab 900 parts, but then I found a MKII Golf throttle body exactly fits the original carb studs on the inlet manifold (Weber DCD/ DGV pattern). This is ideal, as it is a two choke design and I can use the original intermediate plate for the pcv-valve and brake servo line if I want (although I've already designed a necessary 30mm spacer that incorporates these functions). Also, Golf engines have a similar displacement to the V4 (1.6 and 1.8 vs. 1.5 and 1.7) whereas the 900 is a bit bigger (2.0). K-Jetronic is like Lego, so I can use parts from different make and model cars to build the ideal set up and even turbo it should I feel the itch.
Golf throttle body on Saab V4 inlet manifold:
Intermediate plate to clear injectors, to be milled from a slab or cast in aluminium and machined:
Golf (I think) throttle body with mock up intermediate plate to check dimensions and clearances:
I did a bit of Google research on VAG throttle bodies, but got a tad confused. For tuning Golfs and the like the VW Passat 16V auto (which seem to be quite rare?) or 5 cylinder Audi throttle bodies seem the most favoured options as they have a proper throttle position sensor. I won't be using the tps for now (I have a tb with a w.o.t* sensor that I'll need for KE-Jet), but want to make sure it fits my modified manifold in case I opt for something like Megasquirt later on.
Can anyone explain the different VAG throttle body designs with this particular four stud pattern? I'm after the one with the best flow (bit of additional porting action no problem) and a throttle position sensor, but not sure what to look for.
*Why is w.o.t. without dots being auto-corrected to "what"? Bloody annoying.
