Hello everybody I have followed retro rides for quite some time now and thought that I would contribute a little myself I am currently studying to become a mechanical engineer and because of that I have no time for fork and therefore very very limited funds at least when it comes to having a car which I reluctantly sold. So when I got a summerjob around 30 km from where I live, I needed some form of transportation. - First one was public transportation by bus which isn’t really an option since it is poo and would take 2 hours each way. - Second option was by bike and since I have the legs of a chicken and is allergic to too much exercise that option had to be scrapped to - Third option was by scooter which I hated having the last time since it is all plastic, noisy and so on, and every single scooter I stolen by some point in time where I live so that plan didn’t work either - The fourth option was buying Puch maxi moped to restore and keep forever This plan is brilliant because it could be a first project, it is reliable and easy to get parts for, it is eceonmical and at last because it is bloody cool
So where to find one Actually in my girlfriends backyard of all Places so here it is

I have also found a place to blast the frame and paint it in any color i like (so hard to choose, thinking a pale light green) so hopefully ready before summer

My dad used a Puch Maxi to get to work back in the 70's - I'm sure his had pedals on it to class it as a moped. I remember seeing him off down the road on a winter's morning dressed in about 15 coats and a dozen scarves - trailing a cloud of 2-stroke as he went. His butties fell of the back one day and bus ran them over.

Fantastic, a Puch maxi has been on my list of 'wants' for as long as I can remember! When I was 15 I had a Honda pf50 novio and my friend bought a Puch maxi, I was so jealous because of all the after market parts available for the maxi, (I used to visit www.50cc.nl a lot - is it even still going?) This was him and his maxi after we had painted it When I was 16 I bought my first Puch, a Puch M3 Sport, it was a good bike but I virtually knew nothing about bikes and mistreated it - then wondered why it was unreliable! I sold it later the same year, fast forward to 2008, I got a Puch ms50d I did a ground up restoration on it, I rode it a handful of times then got knocked off it, It was a real shame, the ms50d didn't come off to badly but it's still sat in my garage waiting for me to fix it up one day! Anyway before I started rambling I just wanted to say that I had a great time riding mopeds and I hope you have as much fun as I did!

Thanks for the positive comments, can't wait to get it going. Me and my friend stripped and cleaned the engine yesterday and it don't look bad at All, but since it is going to be my Daily i think that replacing the cylinder, piston and crankshaft is the best way to go, unfortuatly also the most expensive

Miss mine Got a view on your thread it looks ace and unfortunatly i am going down the same road as you when it comes to spending piles of money. Ive made a list of parts which is surely missing something and that ads up to 700 pound!!!! and then i still need paint !!! oh my good i need more money. But what can a man do, i plan to keep so might as weel do everything the first time around right ?

I'm not saying this is the best way, but i bought loads of the cheapest bottles of Cola from the supermarket and filed the tank. I left it over night and shook it about as much as possible. I was pouring rust out for hours and hours! Flush it through with petrol afterwards, not water! I made that mistake

Need help guys !!!! i cant decide on the color, I have almost all RAL colors to choose from. The original green was only produced from 1990-1993. Should i go for the original or something special ?
