Whats a decent Sat nav to buy

I have about £100 to buy a sat nav whats a decent sat nav for that price.Thanks

Personally I like the lay out and function of the TomTom models. They're easy to use and well supported

Keep an eye out for Halfords sales especially at Bank Holidays. If you're going for TomTom try to get one with free lifetime updates. They may cost you a bit more initially but it'll pay for itself as soon as a new map is available

Google maps on your smartphone, free. I have no idea why standalone sat navs have any purpose anymore?

You can now get Nokia here maps on android which is completely offline

But Google maps now has the option to download an area (as big as you like, can do whole of UK if it pleases you) so actual data use is minimal. The traffic is awesome and recalculates on the fly

Even basic contracts have at least 500mb of data now and I doubt if you used it daily it would use 100mb a month

Nokia maps are the absolute shiznit! I've just got back from a couple of weeks in Florida and used the maps on my work Nokia phone (completely offline maps, no data connection required). I wanted to go to a '4 Wheel Parts' store, just put the shop name in and it found my closest one, I was well surprised - same with restaurants, theme parks, Kennedy space centre etc. Plus it can search by street name, postcode or whatever, all offline!

If you want to keep it in your car, just get a cheap 'pay as you go' handset, a car charger and don't bother putting a sim in it - away you go!

I have been using the phone but its sh.. as for some reason the map is up side down.And I'm not in ozz.Then it shows the road with the arrow but then it shows you a gap were the road should be.So i thought if i brought a sat nav i would get a map the correct way.Its as if your going the wrong way.

I've tried Google maps and I just don't fetch on with it, also tried a couple of Tom Tom devices and didn't like them either. But I love my Garmin.

So it's really what works for you, I think different systems work for different people.

Good advice to get one with lifetime updates, which you get quite cheap now. I like a bigger screen and lane directions.

Waze on the smartphone is superb and free

As an ambulance driver mapping is important to us, my preference is Tom Tom as its planning and multi drop works that bit better than the others.

It's true what they say though you get what you pay for I have an s5000 it was just over £200 and has paid for itself many times over I have it connected to my phone for live traffic feeds to.

There is still times I use google maps though as street view and there picture of what the house looks like when you get to the destination can be a god send.

Basic Tom Tom is ok but imo lacks the features that set the Tom Tom as better nav machines.

I use my old Nokia N8 with genuine Nokia screen mount. Works offline perfect.

Uses factory installed Nokia maps, never had a problem with it.

I wouldn't use anything other than a TomTom. For accuracy, functionality, clarity and ease of use, nothing comes close.

Totally agree with the Garmin, I do think its lane directions makes it easier to follow and be in time and safely be in the right lane
