Hello 1 month ago I sold my Renault 21 turbo. Depression has now set in Last night whilst out walking the dog a neighbour stopped me and asked about the 21 and asked if I fancied another car. Sinky how do you fancy a Alfa? It may be FREE or a very small fee. Its been sitting in this ladies drive broken for over a year now. She wants rid. It turns out its rhd on UK plates which is a problem here (approx 1000e to change over to Spainish) a S plater So off I went to the ladies house this morning. No one at home but the car is behind the gate .BIG DOG too Black GTV Engine??? Looks awesome! Still don't know whats up with it tho. What do you think? Are they any good? ouch - HG's on the V6's can run into may hundreds £'s for the parts alone. ask me how i know this.
a free one though? got to be worth saving. the V6's are much more robust than the TS and command a significant premium in the UK. genuinely fast car as well.
check also the oil cooler pipes - these rust with catastrophic failures being not uncommon. front lower arms are essentially made from chocolate so treat as service items. rear suspension is complex and the spring pans rot - surprisingly expensive to renew although specialists are offering recon and polybushed units much more economically. rear demist wiring is suspect and cabin fires aren't unknown (the relay doesn't switch it off with resultant overheating of the loom). i'd lose the grooved discs when you rebuild the brembos (which you will as the squealing will drive you crazy. S plate could be a 5 or 6 speed - each to his own; i prefer the 5 speed - difficulties engaging gears may just be an accumulation of swarf which can be cleaned out through the end cover. diffs have been known to give trouble (or, more accurately, to explode) but any problems should be evidenced by the noise when in motion.
other stuff is just niggles but there will be many - but, on the days when it all works as intended you'll forgive it everything else.
