You seem to be putting a lot of research into this for someone who doesn't care. I'll give you one guess where i'm from, and another guess as to why there's a pale blue E21 in Paulo's photos as well? There it is from my account, go through that one too if you need more photos of it.

The point is tsoob that people can like a lot of different things. If your intention was to just come on this thread to show off the ammount of cars you have then well done. The E21 was once just an old model of a BMW, over time it got its status thats how things work, some cars become classics, some cars will NEVER be classics but they CAN become retro cool especially if your willing to add the right tweeks (which is indeed subjective). If this forum were to just become people coming on saying "that's not retro" and then showing off say an E Type Jag it could go on until someone wins with say a Model T Ford or Ferrari GTO.
When my Dad used to take me to custom shows in the UK i can remember there being a lot of Ford Pop's all jacked up at the back with mad paint, now Ford Pops were just a dull car that was seen everywhere, people modding them was i guess both the availability of them and the need to stand out. Modding is as old as cars and its just snobbery to think that modding a car lesser than your E21 is worth ridicule.......

Was going to leave it at that but I guess if the passion is what the people want, we could have a good old fashioned debate about this, get some good banter going, so here goes:
I still don't understand why you would like a Micra. They are literally made to be cheap, that is the only good thing about them. Because of this, you need to re-engineer everything to make them go good.
Reliable to a degree I suppose
For the 500 quid you're going to spend on wheels and drop, you could just not buy a Micra and instead get a whole lot of cars which are way better in every way, 172 Clio's, Type R Civics, Cooper Minis, NB MX5's etc etc
Even a hatch Sunny with an SR20 is the same money as a Micra (But curse word compared to the cars mentioned above)
FWIW my E21 is a 320, basement model, nothing special. Never said otherwise, however it's 40 years old and still goes better and handles better than the K11.
Worse turning circle though
The Pop isn't a great example because back then there was no choice, there simply was nothing out there that was affordable - But these days you've got choice coming out of your ears as far as cars go.

I had a 998 micra engine in my 67 mini for a while, I think, don't quote me here but it made just under 80bhp which was a tonne of fun.
Then it all went a bit sill. Still have a standalone management system here for an early micra engine, successfully hit 140bhp with that.
Personally I have no need or desire for a micra, but I sure do enjoy seeing something different.

Cooler than a 172? Is today opposite day? All of those above would get absolutely slaughtered by a 172, even if it did have a broken dephaser pully

I could understand this objection were it not for the fact that Retro Rides is all about this type of project, its not about chaving up cars, for example you could take your Mazda and make it a chav fast n furious type car which would be wibblepoo, or you could get round to lowering it as its like a 4x4 at the moment and getting a better interior etc. For me your RX isn't cool enough in its current state, its not really anything. You do just come across as a bit of a prat though, maybe your trying to be funny and its not coming across well in this format.

Genuinely rather this over your RX, not cause of money value but because it looks better... now mod your RX and it'll be cool...right now IMO it isn't...

RX7 ain't made for anything else other than to go fast, doesn't really matter what it looks like as you won't be hanging around long enough to see anything other than the taillights briefly anyway.
I'm not really into standing around chatting about how I look, that's for the missus to do
Anyway it's sitting on genuine Mazdaspeed MS02's - Probably weigh less than those 13's on that Micra anyway
I could post up how the E21 sat before I sold off the wheels and coilovers but i'm not trying to prove anything anyway, just that I drive a K11 every day and I think it's possibly the lamest car i've ever owned. Not the worst, but definitely the lamest.

this thread isnt about rx7, we didnt need quite so many pictures of that one. My first micra was a 1.0, not exactly gutless but wouldnt set the world on fire, my current one is a 1.4 se+. When the weather is right, it goes suprisingly well. I don't care if anyone other than myself likes it, i think it does its job well, everyday, and is economical and reliable, therefore its cool by me, but being a 2002 car I'm not interested in lowering it or anything, its got a lighter set of alloys on it and that'll do. If I had a second car it would be a 1993 bubble and id rob my cousin of his spare 2.0 primera gt engine and drop it in. Then id find another one, and drop it in the back (in my dreams) 4.0l, 4WD twinni micra, and then drop it on a set of understated wheels and claim that its generaly cool.

They are literally made to be cheap, that is the only good thing about them. Because of this, you need to re-engineer everything to make them go good. Reliable to a degree I suppose Youve just described an AE86, a car Toyota designed to be a simple family car. So the Micra doesnt get the immediate RWD points, they are both simple economy cars, but I bet you wouldnt bat an eye lid and someone dropping thousands on an AE86? So the guy wants to put some money into a Micra, who cares? Money can be earned, fun cant. If I had the space and time I would have a K10 in a heartbeat, its dying for the right treatment. If you cant see it then go back to whatever you have. Personally I hate BMWs. I think they're the dullest car choice somebody could make, I cant see the interest in working one over in any way. But do you see me coming into peoples threads to curse word on them? No, Ill respect the time an effort anyone puts into a car, whether its a Micra or a Mini, a Marcos or a McLaren it doesnt matter so long as you respect the builder for what they put into it. I'm also man enough to keep the 13b in my RX7

With all due respect this forum isn't all about how fast a car can go, fast is cool but so is low and slow, also I'd not want to go too fast in your RX as it looks in a bad state IMO, is it finished? Anyway look enjoy your cars the BMW E21 is cool car but also i've seen Volvo 240's that with some nice mods look fuggin ace. Chill out and seriously do some research and see just how many people over the years have been turning naff cars into cool rides, its a whole scene in itself FFS.
